This weekend I replaced the lift arms on my 86 Prevost LeMirage XL tag axle. The old ones were wore out and one was bent. The thing that I uncovered was that the air camber that does the lifting via the lift arm and chains always had air presure. I was thinking that it would only have presure when the selector is in the up position and the air bags are soft. But when the bags are aired up the cambers are also under presure. Does any one know if this is the norm? Or do think like me that there is a problem with the selector valve or a dump valve the is not operating correctly. I am unable to find any information in the docs I currently have on hand. |

Hi Ron ...on my 82 Prevo this is not the case. Air chamber only gets air when lifting the tag. Ron |

That is what I would expect to be the norm. Mine still had air going to them. I had to remove one chamber to replace the clevis and it ended up dump all the air from the system. I know that the selector was in the normal "down" position and the air bag had presure. I think I need to find and diagram of the lift tag layout and also check the valve and its operation. This is most likely why the arms were worn out and the one was bent. |

There is a Norgren brand air valve (about 2"x3" with air lines) on the frame near the passenger floor on each side that controls the tag axle lift and shuts off the brakes to the tag while lifted. Either the air controlling this or the valve itself is malfunctioning. (There are other valves there if you have the Level-Low system but these are closer to the drive air levelling valves.) Yes, it will cause problems as you described. Get the manual or at least the air system schematic. I know the air and electric schematics are available from Prevost Canada. I'm not sure about the manual for the older coaches. Jim |
