Ok I'm an idiot!!!!! While the silversides has been sitting this summer one of our fine rodent friends had taken up residence in my air cleaner box(he got in through the old air intake for the gen). After I saw him bail out when I cranked her up one day I figured I had better get my filtes and box clean before my planed trip this Christmas. I got it all down and pressure washed out, clean as a whistle. I figure I had about 50% air flow in the thing. Anyhow inside the houseing ther was a thin piece of alluminum with holes all in it. It held in place what I'm guessing was insulation, for what I don't know. Here's the deal while not paying attention to what I was doing I got the whole thing put back togather and stated to close her up to come in and low and behold there on the ground that I had been stepping around the whole time was the perferated alluminum, the insulation is in the bay, both of course are not where they're supposed to be!!!!! So what do ya'll think can I be lazy and leave it out or do I need to take the thing down and put it back in? Thanks all. Nick | ||

for your punishment...you need to get a piece of hardware cloth/hail screen & put it over the air intake....different names different parts of the country....screen...but 1/4 inch squares | ||

I got the hole cover with a piece of an old road sign before I put it back to gather. I don't think the little devils will get into the intakes up on the sides. | ||

It happend to us, only we found out when we pulled over to Walmart to get some sleep. Tami went to the back to put a few things away, when she came shoooting back out. A hug rat was hopping along the top off the curtain rail. We found a hotel, boy was it hard to get rid of them all. This busin sure can be fun. John. | ||

It's a solid piece of alluminum about 3/16th thick 2D, with two 1/4 bolts and copper gasket maker sealing it up. If he can get through the two 1/4" holes left he can have it. Don't ya just love the little devils. I'm going to pains to seal the interior to keep 'em out for good.  | ||

Nick, if its like the 4104 & 06 the metal screen fastens to the opening, then the pad goes over it, and the final cover over the whole thing. The pad acts as a muffler for the air intake noise inside the bus, and a seal to keep dirt out and seal the intake. I would put it back in. John F. | ||

I figured it was some sort of noise thing and I was affraid I needed to put it back, what a pain in the neck!!!:P Oh well if it's not one thing it's three others huh? Ahh the joys of a 60 year old coach!!!! | ||

I'm glad to say there's no rodents on my bus, but I must give my cat, Bobbie, all the credit for that! She maybe a small cat, but I've seen her take down a rabbit that was a little bigger than her. Of course, she's a bobcat mix (mostly housecat, though), and she'll unleash that bobcat attitude on those rats when she sees them! |
