I am considering purchasing a 1976 Eagle but according to the RIV in Canada (www.riv.ca)I can't bring one in unless it is pre-1971. Doesn't make sense to me as I have seen two in the last few weeks with B.C. license plates. Spoke to a supervisor at Transport Canada and he basically said anything not on the list (Eagle is not on the list) has to be built prior to 1971 or it cannot be brought in. Anyone who may have experienced this and got around the govt red tape, I would appreciate hearing how. Thanks...Tim |

U spoke to a supervisor over the phone? Can't grease palms over the phone! This subj. has come up a few times before and there are some folks around Canada that seemed to know the ins and outs of getting them in. Hopefully they will jump in here. |

I guess the first question is why would anyone want to. Along with all the problems that Saskatchewan Transportation had with their batch of Model 15s, you have to consider that there is zero parts or technical support for Eagle in Canada. The only mechanics with any Eagle experience are in Saskatoon and I don't think you will find one that will ever work on another one. |

John the new guy, just so you know Canada has lots of eagles in fact the eagls that you see flying around the US are from Canadian origin as the US killed off so many of their with pesticides that they came to Canada to get replacement stock, this was done a few years ago and has worked very well to put eagles back in the air over the US. they came here to BC and gathered one egg from each eagle nest and took a bunch back to the US to hatch and later released the to the wild. so when you look up and see one thank Canada. in fact one guy that i know has a picture with 211 eagles siting in eagle trees. now you want to know what a eagle tree is- well here in BC an eagle tree is a tree that eagles us to roost on or have a nest on and and these tree are protected by law and you can go to jail big time for cutting one down. |

Tim, An Eagle bus which is designed, manufactured and certified by the original manufacturer to meet all applicable US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards at the time of re-sale can be imported into Canada. No Eagle Manufacturing = no certification = no Eagle imports. Please disregard inaccurate "reasons" stated elswhere about greasing palms, zero parts and technical support or competition. Pre-1971s are different, as they fall into the antique and/or historic vehicle categories. You may start your search for pre-'71 Eagles by browsing the 4 listed on this web site. I'm sure there are still several dozen left from which to choose, out there somewhere. When you need assistance importing one, please visit our archives for detailed information from several viewers who have done the same and have personal knowledge from importing their bus into Canada. If you'd like to buy the one on this web site that is here in Ontario, please let me know - I can put you in touch with the owner. And when your Eagle requires service or parts, again, please email me and I'll give you the names of a couple of top notch Eagle mechanics in Ontario. Regards, Ian www.busnut.com |

JtISG, you'll have to go alone. TD & Gary have been thrice and flunked all three. Three strikes, they're out. Gary had to move away from the People's Republic of Berkeley and Two Dogs was banished to the middle of nowhere as penance. |

I have also seen newer buses in Canada. When importing busses into Canada the restrictions are for busses that carry passengers. If the bus is registered as a motorhome it is a passenger vehicle and not a bus. Therefore you can import a conversion into Canada as long as the registration calls it a motorhome. |

Yeah.. interesting angle, except the list of admissible vehicles is just that --admissible.. if its not on that list, then as stated on the list, it is not admissible. I don't think an Eagle Motorhome Conversion is on the list.. in fact I think any vehicle that is not in the original state of manufacture is also inadmissible.. ask those who tried to import admissible buses where the seats had been removed. "1. A US specification vehicle is a vehicle which is designed, manufactured and certified by the original manufacturer to meet all applicable US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards." |
