For towing a suburban 4wd, transfer in neutral. Can not down size vehicle due to family size.
What tow bars do you recomend?
What braking systems are good, bad?

Thanks!

Blue Ox and Roadmaster tow bars have a good reputation for customer service. Both are often at large RV rally sites providing free service. I had a minor problem with my Roadmaster Falcon tow bar and they gave me a complete new one and apologized for the inconvenience. I told the owner of Roadmaster my standard Saturn base plate was not well engineered and a week later I received a new model via UPS. That's good service.

I have also heard good things about Blue Ox but I have no personal experience.

Whatever company you pick, be sure it's their heavy duty model. Even an empty 'burban is over 6,000 pounds. Most standard tow bars are rated at 5,000 pounds.

I think the mechanical surge brake systems like ReadyBrake are the simplest. Some of the exotic electrical/vacuum/air/hydraulic systems are a pain to hookup and unhook and cost MANY hundreds of dollars. Simple is good. MHO

I've never used it (never towed more than a 2200lb VW pickup), but have heard good things about the Brake Buddy. No wiring changes required.
