Benny The Bus has only seen the Pacific Coast his entire life of 50+ Years in California... Well this week we took him to see the Atlantic for the first time This is on Tybee Island GA at our friends beach front house. OMG I'm like a parent showing off photos of my kids... This is his first vacation, first steps, first major engine overhaul... LMAO! Well I guess I better start saving for his college fund too!

Ok now can i ask a steering Question? I have some play in the wheel. Not a ton while stopped (manual steering) But when driving it feels like a the gap between the Atlantic and Pacific... We did the adjuster bolt and that got rid of some, but it made it dangerous to drive just a tiny left or right would catch it just right and send you veering off course. There is a little knock or clunk that you can feel in the steering wheel when it changes directions from left to right. What are some common problems and places to look to get this on the road to being fixed? |

Scott You have two boxes connected to the steering. One is the angle box at the base of the steering column and the other box is on the axle. They both have an adjustment. Make sure you do both. Check your tie rod ends and the drag link. There is also universal joints and a slip joint in the shaft from the angle box to the steering box on the axle. Any one of these can give you play in the wheel. Bill |

One of the best adjustments to be made is the CASTER! Check the axel caster angle and try for about three degree's positive.>>>Dan |

The steering box above the axle adjustment is critical, a bit too much and the steering worm binds with the stud. I only adjust this about 1/8th turn at a time. The manual tells how to do it properly with the front wheels jacked off the ground but I was always too lazy to do that. |

Don't forget to get the kingpins checked; wouldn't be surprised that they are worn with the number of miles it probably has on it. |

If you are still on the east coast call Gene Russell at 828 863 2102. He is at mill spring NC. He has a silversides with power steering. He also is a great bus guy and mechanic. He will check the steering and give you some great advice. uncle ned |

The Bus is in Nashville TN... I will be driving back to Indiana in hopefullly a week or so. We still don't know the eta on the parts for the engine. Is there a place that I can take it to get the steering checked out? Within 100 miles of that route or so? If not who would be able to check it out and repair or align/adjust it. I know nothing of front ends, Clarke Power services where it is at now said they don't do anything with front end work. |

We are about 70 miles south of Indy.If the weather was better or I had a shop to get the Bus in I could help you check the King Pins. There is a good shop in Jasper Indiana (Ford heavy truck dealership) They can check the front end and do an alignment. |
