I found my oil leaks on my DD6-71. There are 2 oil drain /vent capillary (small)tubes mounted to the engine block. One is at the Fan end and the other is at transmission end. While I was idleing the Bus the other day, I noticed that both of these drains were dripping oil at the rate of one drop every 2-3 seconds. I haven't checked to see If the venting goes away after a run.. What does it mean when these drain/Vents leak? Is it normal? Best, Phil PD4104-3832 |

Phil, these are "air box drains". They are normal on 2 stroke DDs. Normally they should have a flow of air coming out while the engine is running. They will "slobber" if you idle the engine more than what it takes to build up air. (They can also slobber if you have oil leaks in your intake system, like bad blower seals.) There are a couple of ways to deal with these. There is a retrofit to direct the oil back in the pan, and/or a vented tank scheme to catch the drips & drain them periodically. Jim-Bob |

Hi Phil, just my opinion, I would not reroute them back to the oil Pan, I would rebuild the blower also, that is where the oil is most likely coming from any way... |
