I just bought my first bus. A late seventies 40 ft. AM General. It was converted in 1992. Master bedroom and two bunks. Full size shower and toilet. Three burner stove and microwave, double sink and lots of cabinet space. Two couches and a dinnette. One air ride drivers seat and a copilot seat. Three speed Allison auto and an 8v71DD. I've been reading this board for several months now and I want to thank all of you for your info that you have provided. I hope to be making more use of everyones vast experience and knowledge as I enter into this dream that I have had for a very long time. If there are any other AMG owners out there I sure would like to hear from you. Thanks

tell ya' what's fun....the friends you tell....once you drive your bus to their house...ONLY THEN...do they realize how big it is....if they just see it going down the road, they don't think it's that big...I probably didn't say that correctly...congrats steve,

TD: Yeah, they even think they are big seeing it going down the road. I live in a rural area and a lot of people around the area comment to me that I should petition the county to build wider roads for me to get into and out of the area, or confine my driving to middle of the night when nobody else needs the roads out here. Now perhaps they are politely commenting about my driving, which my wife does continually, but not so politely (over 60mph warrants 30 days at hard labor and we won't even get into the descriptive adjectives of me).

Steve: Congrats, I have a couple of friends with AMG's and they make into a spacious conversion. Since it is already converted for use, you can use it while u plan the customizing to your taste.

Welcome to a great hobby with a great bunch of nutty folks that equally enjoy the ride.

BUT , now is time to get "Da Book"(the drivers , maint , parts manuals) and figure out how to maintain it.

The better the maint , the better fun you will have , never worrying about being on the side of the road at O dark 30.

Then , Hit the road!!

Congratulations, Steve. I also have an American General. '76 35'

I also need to get "Da Book"(the drivers, maint, parts manuals) for my AMG. If you find where to get them, would appreciate the information.

Steve, it hasn't been that long since I had that "WOW" moment. It still grips me all the time. Keep up the enthusiasm!

Steven-I to have an AMGeneral 40102B (the last and best series). I connverted it myself and tell you they are built like tanks with simple 12v electrical system. I don't know that you'll need "da book" since it has much the same components as a new look and is based on the Canadian Flyer from wasteline down. You'll enjoy the reliablilty of the AMGeneral. I've had mine for 10 years and have all original wiring with no problems. Good Luck, TomC
