So now I've drained all my fluids what to refill with? I guess I should have went to the board for this question before starting. Can't seem to get information straight from the truck service and repair shops contacted, most don't want to give up any info. Maybe they should have a "900 " number!!. So far I have decided to use Chevron Delo 100 40 wt. for the motor and transmission, I'm guessing 90 wt. for the wet front hubs and a low or non silicate ethylene glycol and DCA/SCA for the cooling system. The differential will be 140 wt. per an old maint manual of similar but older GMC coach. How about multi vis 85/90 GL-5 or 75/140 wt. gear oils, are thy the same or compatible?? You bus maintainers out there let me know, this is my first time on this service and think I should have took it to the shop?? Please Help Thanks, Dale B. WHen you add the real diesel antifreez it pays to use distilled water for the other 50%. It is also a good idea to clean/flush the cooling system , as too much SCA is worse than too little. This might be a good time to replace hoses, if any are too old. Although non "hopped up" GM are hard to overheat , I do use Water Wetter , as a precaution. I have been using synthetic in tranny and rear axle , in the hope of "stoping the clock". Dont forget the rest of the grease points , the clutch cross shaft seems to be one the shops never find. I've read that 30% antifreez cools better (depending on environment). FWIW |

WATTER cools the best of all , but the engineer folks usually want at least 35% antifreez to keep corosion down , and carry the SCA that the engine needs to keep from eating the cylinder walls from cavitation. The best thing most folks can do for their cooling system is flush it 4 or more times with plain old water , before adding new distilled water and DIESEL (not car} antifreez. Flush does not mean running a hose , its filling the system , going for a drive to normal temps and then draining and refilling , again and again. FAST FRED |

I haven't tried the synthetics yet, but my 'Book calls for 85/90 Hypoid, for the differential. Your other choices are the same as mine, and I'm pleased with the Chevron. Just arrived in Sun River, OR. 3587 miles from N. Ft. Myers,Fl with no problems. Keep several sets of fuel filters for spares on the road. ( Mine are the "old" type not the new screw on) Cheers...JJ |
