Going to install a roof air in our Buffalo. (This will be used while parking with shore power as our coach air is still working and no Gen-set yet!!) The 14" square hole required in the center will necessitate us cutting the center rib and building a box reinforcment or off-setting the unit 8" to one side or the other to miss the rib. I know these are structural, it's a small hole, and I can build reinforcemt *(box) to tie it together. Anyone out there that has already done this got advice on the hole location or reinforcments? Thanks, Dale B. http://gmc4905busnut.homestead.com/homepage.html |

Folks that love to weld seem to put into the center. The folks who are less sure of their welding skills put it to the side. The center is worst from a head banging point. FAST FRED |

Dale, I was able to center my roof air on my 5-a,The roof air bolted right together and the air dosent care weather there is a pice of iron there or not . I would set your air up on the roof to see if you really need to cut it or not. I got lucky. Jeff |

the question seems to be a structural one. to cut the center brace. You can do away with the longatudnal one but not the lattitudnal. other words the stiffner that runs frount to back length wise is dispensible. don't cut the bowed brace. |

With all due respect James, IMHO it is NOT a good idea to cut the center longitudinal brace on a GM coach. That brace is part of the engine support system, which distributes the load of the engine throughout the roof structure. If someone MUST have a centered roof air unit, then welded braces should be fabricated to replace the removed center brace in order to maintain roof integrity. RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |
