Usually the speed demons consider the 6V to be a bit slow on hill climbing. But they are fine coaches. The dual roof is a real plus in sunshine in the summer. FAST FRED |

Hi Al, lots of buses to choose from, size and engine ranges. 5 series is a 35 footer, shorter than the rest of them, 6v71 is a good engine but a little weak for hill climbing. I got mine almost a year ago, live in Washington and she runs with the dogs on the flats, but you better grab another cup of coffee if your going over the pass. Some guys have retro fitted with 6v92's and say it's the Z3 of the bus world, but it's alot of money and headaches. I like the shorter verison, easier to get around in, sized right for more camping areas and a little sexier than big and square. You give up 5 feet of space to build with, but it works for us. Watch for water damage with the flooring around the front wheel wells, look for leaks in the spare tire area behind the front bumper, and in the engine compartment and rear axle. Take her for a good long drive, watch for smoke on start up and under power, just like anything else you have every purchased used, than give her to a mechanic to check out. Once you buy it, it's yours you don't just trade out of these things overnight, but they sure are alot of fun to build and operate. Never for one minute did I think I would ever get as far into the construction of this thing as I have and have loved every minute of it.....RJ |

Al - Are you looking at one of the Saudis with a single front door, or one of the transit models with front and rear? If it's a transit model, you've got more work involved to obtain usable space currently occupied by whichever door you decide to close off, but that's really the only difference. The 5C is a good coach, shares a lot of parts with the MC-8, so they're available. Don't overlook the ex-NJ Transit's MC-9s and Eagles that have recently come on the market - might find a 40-footer for about the same asking price or less. Shop wisely, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

Check I-44 bus sales web site out they have a MC-5 Custom Coach Conversion for sale converted from new never a line haul bus. Was on Ebay for $25,000.00 and did not get a bid make them a offer. You can not build one for that kind of money. |

You can always tell a Saudi from the double roof and from rust they come with. The Saudis are not rust protected and when they came back off lease they started rusting like old Eagles. The MC5 is a nice bus, when it comes with the 8V71 and a good shifting 4 speed. But if you are looking for a Z3 in a bus, then look at the 35' RTS with the 6V92 and 95 injectors (375 HP) and a 4:10 rear, that to me is the sports car of buses. They also look like BMW made them. |
