Towed Safety Cables
I need a set of safety cables to tow my Sidekick. My understanding is that the standard length is 5 feet for the ones from the tow bar manufacturers. Because I need ones that are 6 feet long, I will have to make up a set. My question—How heavy should the cable be? That is, What diameter are the standard cables made of." My understanding is that 3/8 inch quick links are the best way to hook them on.
Any comments?

George I can't help you on cable as I run chain but really like the safety type hooks with little spring loaded "fingers" to keep them on. I welded loops on each side of towbar to run chain through with chain bolted at each end then let chain loop down to attachment pts on bus and car, that way I have safety chain all the way from car to bus but not in way. Safety hooks on car end just reach under to factory transport tiedown eyes. Read your stuff and hope to see you on road sometime. Jim |

I think you'll find that the cables run a little longer than the specified length. I had to cut some that I ordered because they were way too long. Call and ask about the real length.

I have a new set of coil cables, plastic covered, with hooks. I'm not going to use them since I got the straight cables you saw in Ohio. We will probably be at the balloon rally or E mail your address and I'll send them to you.
