Screwed the new filters on after filling them, hooked up the battery, turned the key and she roared to life. After a couple of complaints from the two year old fuel in the lines she smoothed out and purred like a kitten. After being torn apart for two years the bus is finally getting put back together (whew! long bumpy road of problem solving, cutting, welding, etc.) I rewired the entire bus but my problem is the alternator. It is a AM General 75 vintage with a Detroit 6v71. The regulator has positive, negative and field connections while the alternator has F1, relay and battery. I hooked the Field on the regulator to the F1 on the alternator then positive to battery and negative to ground and I don't know what the relay terminal is for. The system is not putting out a charge. (battery voltage does not increase when engine is running it stays about 12 volts) The system worked before I fixed it (ha ha) help Stevebnut |

Steve, Be sure the regulator "Gound" or negative is HARD WIRED to the alternator negative and to battery ground. A couple of ohms difference in the two Grounds will cause problems. The Relay terminal was used to pick a relay to control the heavy loads (AC) so they could not be turned on until the alternator was charging. This terminal can also drive a tachometer.
