hey guys,

i just got a deal on a 15kw genset desiel with only 5000 hours for $2,000. got it installed with the automatic switchs etc. it is quiet at the exhaust but the engine is loud.
How do you know how to box up the motor without making it overheat? ive seen the writtings about how to do it,(with insulation etc.) but the company that installed genset said to leave it open for air movement.
also is it difficult to connect the 25 former gas tank and the main coach's 140 tank in series?

also my bus is a 1957 4104 and was interested in what others buses weigh. mine was 5,500 lbs front and 15,000 lbs rear.

I'll tell you as soon as you tell me where to get a 15KW Diesel Genset for two grand.

ok gary deal,

i am in the ministry and travel the NASCAR circuit. A few other people where praying for us to get a new genset knowing that ours was dying.
A Church group that ministers to the drivers in NASCAR just removed a 4 yr old genset(kohler desiel 15kw, water cooled) they knew we needed one and offered it to us for $2,000.
We drove to KY last week to a BUSCH raceshop where it was located to see if it would fit our bay. They installed it and changed the wiring with a new auto box etc.

now how do i know how much to close this thing in with??

I don't think that tells me how to get a 15KW genny for two grand, but in any case here's an interesting resource for soundproofing a generator:

http://www.soundproofing.org/infopages/generator.htm

Also this is a once and future topic, as Marc says. I bet this topic is covered dozens of times at least.

Good luck,

Gary

I'm glad it was a help.

In the marine industry they do magic with noise control. A buddy of mine took me on a tour of his 56' Cheoy Lee motorsailer that had just completed a multi-year refit. I asked him what that box in the corner was, he said that's my genset, and it's running.

Only a small hum could be heard. Amazing.
