And Advance Autoparts sold me 2 Standt thermostats for $5 each for my Cat 3208. I love it when I don't have to use the "D" word when buying parts. They just matched it up in their Standt application book.

Anyway, this sounds like the perfect application for that IR thermometer I've heard about on here a few times lately. Got to get me one.

Check your fuel pressure. I had the same problem with my 4106. The mechanic checked my pump and found that it was around 40 psi. It ran good, but always ran a little hot. Now that the fuel pump has been replaced, I never have heat issues.

Might try just cleaning between the fins on the radiator. Mine had unbelieveable crud (mud?) clogging up the fins and tubes on the outside of the radiator.
Also, don't trust the guage, use an infared sensor thermometer and be sure of your temps.
Do you have a direct drive or a fluid drive fan?

I cleaned my fins but they weren't bad. I believe it's direct drive it runs all the time.

RON...

I remember...o.k. try this.....NEVER lug that engine...on a DD...it must always be screaming..did you ever get used to double clutching ?? If it ain't screaming,go to a lower gear...(and flush the radiator,....(capture anti-freeze...put water in,either comercial radiator flush ,or a handfull of tide...take it for a cruise, come back ,open petcock (or better yet ,remove petcock),put garden hose (on trickle)in top let run...30 min. ..shut off...put back anti-freeze after it has drained...

Oh yeah, I forgot, if you have one of them old fashioned stick shift tranny things like Two Dogs, you can lug the engine.
The automatic people don't have to worry about that.

the bus was not over heating it is a faulty gauge. I had a guy shot it with an ifrared therm and it was running at 165 degrees. so I actualy wasted a little time and money but now I know everything is fine in that area. thanks for the input. yes 2dogs I got the shifting thing down pat

Daris, you only told us part of the story! How is the new one different from the old one? And why do you think your old one made it run hot?

Thanks.

Anyone ever try the water nozzle spraying mist on the radiator thing for those long uphill grades? I have a getup like that on my bus that isn't hooked up to a pump right now. I haven't had an overheating problem, even on the nasty climbs, but I haven't had her out in the desert heat either. I am just wondering if it is worth the effort. I am also running an 8V71.

Bob -

This idea has been thrashed over several times on this and other BBS's. Use the "search" utility over on the LH side to bring up the various threads on misters.

Might also check out, off the BNO front page, in the "Articles of Interest" link, the info on shifting. There's references to cooling in that, also a small section on automatics.
