__. Is there a standard (or at least usual) size (height, length, width) for golf cart batteries? I'm ready to start building some cabinets which will eventually house my batteries but I don't know what physical size the batteries are and what cube dimensions to allow for.

__. Also, is there a good source for golf cart/ "house" batteries? I'd prefer s/eastern North Carolina, if possible, but they're not available here, then any other good lead would be appreciated.

Many thanks, Bruce Henderson, Wallace NC

I bought my brand new, brand name 8D for $70. Ask the manager
of your local parts house about the availability of "blemishes". All
manufacturers sell them, and at a fantastic discount.

Bruce,
Most 8-D's are not deep cycle, unless specificly ordered.. You asked about Golfs..

I got info from www.trojam-battery.com

T-105 225 AH 6V L=10 3/8 W=7 1/8 H=10 7/8 62 Lbs
L-16 420 AH 6V L=11 5/8 W=7 H=16 121 Lbs

I have been using them for years, Like them fine, but may change over to L-16 for the extra capacity, and almost same floor space.

Bruce (& jack)

I mentioned 8Ds to give you a comparative. The same source quoted
6v golf carts at around $25 per.

I had been unaware that batteries were labeled "blemishes" as
well as tires. It's sort of a "scratch and dent" thing to get rid of
stock. The batteries (and tires) usually carry the same warrantee
as the new "unblemished" variety.

__. Yeah, that 420 Amp Hour is *impressive*! The 16" height would have to be worked around but that's OK (the cabinets for these are to be under bench seats, with a forced vent system to the outside of the vehicle, so a 16" height could be worked around OK.
__. Re: the 420 AH spec, does that mean that four of the L-16's hooked in series to give 24 volts would give 1680 AH? Alternatively, would two 12 volt batteries have to be 840 AH to give the same total power?

__. Of course, that's "TrojaN" battery for the URL but that's OK, got there just fine. There are four dealers within 100 miles of me.

__. I'm thinking the L-16's, too.
Thanks, Jock! Bruce Henderson, Wallace NC

Bruce,

Nice use of space to store the batteries in a sealed cabinet.

I note you're alert enough to add a fan (I'm assuming the "forced vent" term means a fan) to insure venting of gassing from charging process.

What provisions, if any, have you made to deal with a fan malfunction? Usually these installations allow for passive venting, which might be possible with a little forethought!

Unfortunately Bruce, when connected in series only the voltage is increased, the ampacity is the same. You need multiple strings in parallel to increase ampacity. Bob

See the Trace manual pg 106 thru 108 on specifics and diagrams on how the series/parallel item that Bob mentions here works. I posted a link to it on the venting house battery in a new thread.

Of course, 24 volts vs. 12 volts will double your watt/hours if they are both the same amp/hour rating...

Series Battery Ampere hours..

When you series batteries, you keep the same AH as each single battery, Just more volts, and therefore more Watt Hours..
