I read a posting in places not to stay or places to avoid about a KOA charging $15 dollars for dump. I have been on the road since memorial day weekend and when I need a dump I go to a RV center. you can usualy dump for free or no more than 5 dollars. I spend my nights when not parked at the bar I'm performing at parked at friends properties or truck stops or walmarts. big savings over the 25 dollar per night fees in camp grounds

I was just told by a campground that KOA is the major force behind attempts to restrict RV parking at rest stops, truck stops, anywhere but a campground. Don't know if it is true, but it is plausible and he is an insider in the business.

I personally believe our maximum exposure to health hazards is in campgrounds where the sewer hose has just been washed out on the ground by using the drinking water faucet by the previous occupant. Public Dump stations are usually easier to clean up and have separate hoses for rinse down and potable water. I guess I have another reason to avoid most KOAs. I like small private campgrounds run by people who love camping more than money.
