did anybody put a doorbell on their bus...I can barely hear somebody knocking.........

also...the low air buzzer on my bus Is VERY loud & very anoying...it's so loud I can't hear the engine turning over..are different ones available ??

Two Dogs..My K-9 systems works very good!(2 dogs)About the air alarm, on my MCI there is a button to press to temp turn the alarm system off, I use mine quite often when I'm starting up my bus because it takes about 5 minutes to build up the air.

I have a very annoying (but also attention-getting) bell in my cockpit that goes off whenever anything is wrong (e.g. Low Air, Low Coolant, etc.). In order to avoid listening to the bell until the air pressure builds up, I put in a simple alarm-silence circuit using a relay and a momentary SPST switch. When the alarm "goes away" the circuit self-resets, assuring I will hear the bell the next time something sets it off.

BTW, our coach had a doorbell when we got it, but we did away with it. The dog goes ballistic whenever anyone is at the door anyway...

Radio Shack (amongst others) has a wireless door bell. Battery operated (lighted?) stick-on box for the outside, and the receiver can be up to 100 ft. away. Charlie Charter put one on his 4106, and had the same problem- his mongrel goes absolutely nuts when you use it. So I still have to take my shoe off and beat on the side of his bus (he's hard of hearing too. ...JJ

I had a wireless doorbell on mine. When you are living in it, it seemed to be a necessity. Inexpensive, stickon, troublefree.

I had a wireless doorbell in my home for my mother inlaw when she was staying with us when she was sick. We had no problem with it but she send us nuts with it.It was good when she got better and went back to her own home.

Hmmm. that's pretty interesting, I hadn't even THOUGHT about a doorbell.

What about mounting a door knocker on a lacquered plaque?

Would be different...

Might whistle going down the road though...

I put one of the wireless ones on mine. Worked great. Otherwise, could not hear anyone knocking.

I cut the wires on the alarm and hooked them up to a light.

Twodogs, My Eagle is the same year as yours. It has been fun putting another classic back on the road.

BOB...interisting...my s.n. is 19835 what's yours...mine spent it's whole life going from Amarillo to Las Vegas...do you have any history on yours...bet we could find out if you want.kinda thinking about something different on the low air buzzer...legaly,supposed to be an audabil alarm...it's enough to drive ya' crazy when you need to hear the engine cranking...that guy never said if that press to disconnect switch was stock...any other MCI guys know ???

I don't have a disconnect, but my volume is somewhat adjustable as per da book. Does yours have a screw adjustment on the buzzzer itself?

My problem with mine is that it sounds like a sick calf bleating. Very unsuave sound. I'm thinkin about making the signal 12v and getting a nice auto "lights on" or "door open" door chime from the junkyard. One of those nice to haves after everything else is done.

yep....mine is VERY iratateing...as soon as it comes on ...I want to kick somebodys A**

yeah...the door open thingy would be o.k.

maybe some way to wire both to gether..that way...low air/doorbell....neato...never have "seen" one of those BONG ...BONG...things..wonder if they are expencive

Not sure about the serial # off hand. It's on the title somewhere, but I can't locate these things without the wife's help. :-P

Mine was one of 12 Eagles owned by the Arizona prison system. They were well maintained, but had high miles. They dumped the whole lot of them for some reason. A few of them, including mine, ended up with Bart Grabhorn in Portland. The engine (8V71) and transmission (Allison automatic) had just been re-built before the sale. Bart had a problem with one of the heads during a test run and replaced it before I picked it up.

I found out that mine was used primarily for transporting prisoners across the Mexican border, which explains why, when I was driving her home to Houston and the border patrol in El Paso TX was stopping and checking EVERY vehicle on I-10, they just smiled and waved me through. They thought it was one of their own. Indeed, it WAS. :-) It still had bars in the windows, alarm system, caged drivers compartment, and guard seats in it.

A little story.... We left Houston early in the morning and flew up to Portland to make the purchase. Cheap tickets... switched planes twice. Hit Portland that evening. Did a quick checkup on the bus, signed the papers, jump started the drivers side (air) windshield wiper (it was pouring) and headed off into the night. I had deadlines back home. The permit I had taped to the back window was not honored in CA, so we took a different rout. In the mountains of Oregon I lost oil pressure. turns out there was an improperly installed valve cover gasket (not on the head Bart fixed). Thankfully, I had several gallons of oil with me. i babied her along through the night, loosing 2 gallons every 50 miles. less at low RPMs, so it was a slow ride. We finally found a bus tour company with a mechanic willing to fix it, somewhere in Idaho. The repairs took a couple hours and we were off again.

Skipping a couple boring episodes... We hit Vegas 48 hours after I had last slept. It was about 9 PM. I was loopy and decided to take a drive down the strip... In a prison bus with no plates. It was fun. Then we found that there were no rooms anywhere around because of national finals rodeo and had to keep going. Didn't sleep in the bus. Wife wanted a shower and a break from the smell coming from the trashed toilet in the back. At the time they would not allow busses to cross the dam. had to turn around and negotiate the gorge. That was a long grade, but she purred along just fine. Finally found a room in a place called "Calnevari", a few miles outside of Laughlin. Just before we got there I saw a man on the side of the highway... in the middle of the night, in the middle of the high desert. I slowed down to see if he was OK. When I got closer he turned into a sign. I needed sleep bad! Didn't tell Maggie what I had seen. :-)

Slept for a few hours and proceeded to Houston without incident. I love little adventures.

yep....the adventure is BEFORE you get to the destination....love driveing my bus....kinda theropy.....I had a 30 foot tall cowboy walking along side me one time...sleep is very important...now...when it just starts acting like the sun is going down...maybe two hours beforehand...I start looking for a nice roadside park ...or Wal-mart...if I need shopping...everything I own comes from Wal-mart...as long as they don't run me off...so far ,they have been EXTRA nice...

Sorry about the long post. Wasn't trying to hijack the doorbell thread. i just get excited about my bus and go off. I have since been concentrating more on the value of sleep.

BTW, I met a guy driving an Eagle 10 conversion in Laughlin, on that same trip. He used to build Wallmarts. Now he builds busses for fun and travels a lot. Very attractive sounding lifestyle.

I@n doesn't mind long posts...just so it's bus related...you bus was 121 after mine...yeah...the people you meet...really have nice things to say & it's realy a boost to have somebody like what you have done...

I guess the numbers are chronological eh?

I hope to make it to a convention this year and chat with all the bus nuts and compare notes. Maybe have a shot or two with like minded folks as well.
