The shuddering as she rolls to a stop, appears to be clutch related. "Bus Repair" says "new is needed to avoid problems". Is a new dry clutch and parts available for a '62? If not, what is the next best? Thanks in advance! |

David - Who's "Bus Repair"?? Before shelling out the $$ for a new clutch, have you adjusted it properly, per DA BOOK? Not just cranking the wheel in the engine compartment, but starting up front, under the driver, and working your way back like you're supposed to? Suggest you try that first, then take it for a drive. If it still shudders, it could be a number of other things, too. Like a bad bulkhead motor mount, worn splines in the driveshaft, or worn radius rod (dogbone) bushings, for example. Could also be a cracked bulkhead, or even driver error. . . Does it shudder when getting the coach rolling using a dead throttle start? (FYI, a dead throttle start is NOT dumping the clutch w/o any throttle!!! It is feathering the clutch thru the take-up point w/o adding throttle until the clutch is full engaged.) As for parts, call Luke - 1-888-262-2434 M-F between 9-5 EST. He'll know what you need to replace the clutch. And if you're in the NJ area, you might even consider taking your coach to "Camp Luke". . . HTH, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

You can buy clutch parts at almost any truck supply house. I believe it is a standard 11" unit. If you have a problem just take it into the parts house with you. Keep in mind you have to reverse the plates if running a left hand engine. |

The PD-4106's have a lefthand rotation 8V/71 engine. |

Two Dogs: FYI, GMC coaches, except for the Scenicruiser, all used LH rotating engines, due to their angle drive powertrain layout. They also don't use any fan belts, either. MCI, Prevost, Setra, Eagle, and everyone else with a T-drive powertrain, use RH engines. FWIW, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

How much should I expect to pay for a new clutch and probably a rebuilt clutch plate and instalation for a 4104? |

About a grand if the current flywheel is OK. Be sure to use ONLY new bolts to hold the flywheel on (one time torque) and get some of the recomended grease for the end of the crank shaft that holds the pilot bearing. Even the best shops may not have heard of it. FAST FRED |
