1984 MC-9 (Jersey Coach) I know I should have checked my heat system sooner but..... I found out Sunday that the coach heat does not work. The defroster done OK after I opened the valve beside the drivers seat. But after I opened the 2 valves in the engine compartment for the coach heat...all I had was cool air blowing. 'Da Book talked about a thermostat in the drivers side front bay (?). I didn't see anything. Also I'm not sure how the diaphram valve works in the passenger side front bay. I'm going to get 'da book back out and see if I can make more sense out of it. I hope I'm overlooking something. Glenn Tallulah Falls, GA. |

Glenn There is a valve in the front bagage pit passenger side... The cover is attached to the center "hump" in the pit ceiling....Remove the cover and see if the valve is opening....I have had them fail a couple of times...I may be electric or air controled or both...Good luck Mark |

Hello Glen. Further to Mark's post, from the curb side front baggage door looking straight in, up high in the right corner, against the drop down of the frame is a rounded panel that covers the water valve that regulates the water flow to the heat exchanger. If you have heat at the defroster, then the lines to the engine are open. They share the same lines going forward. Did you change the valves before or after you found heat at the defroster? One is easy, the return is in the bottom of the curb side engine access door, the other, the supply, is a pain, on the top of the motor, sometimes easier to reach down through the floor in the back of the coach. The water valve is powered closed, so if you simply remove the wire, being careful to not let it touch the rest of the bus, the valve should be wide open. There should be power to the wire when the "heat" indicator in the dashboard is out. It lights with no power to the valve. The valve is plumbed into the return side of the heat exchanger. If the valve is warm, you have water flow through the heat exchanger. Do your fans work? Is the wood panel that seals the fan compartment in place? Is the rheostat set on the driver's side instrument panel? Has anyone messed with the duct work and messed up the temperature probe inside the ductwork? Wires or connectors may be brittle, and moving it carelessly might do some damage. let us know what you find! happy coaching! buswarrior |
