Have decided to go for an XM radio , but am having troubble finding the operation style I'm looking for. With houses , a boat , a coach and some cars , I would prefer a simple unit to operate in every location. Seems like an XM radio that puts out a FM signal would power everything from headphones on the lawn mower to anything else. Has anyone come across a unit with this output? Seems like the EZ way to go to me. FAST FRED |

Fred, just bought the Sirius brand of satellite radio and am pleased so far. Use it in the car and the house for the same cost. Was told XM only has house capability thru the boom box setup. In the house Sirius feeds thru the amp aux input then thru the radio and the speakers. Tim |

Fred I have XM in two vehicles and I picked the Roady as the receiver since I could move it around. The new Roady 2 has a docking station for the house and a remote control also. To transfer them between locations requires unplugging a couple of cables in the side of the unit. Both models have the FM radio interface now. The other unit (can't remember what it is called) is designed to travel around betweeen docking stations but the price is higher. It has more gadgets than the Roady 2, but it all depends on what you want to do. I am buying 2 units for my sons this Christmas and I am getting the Roady 2 units. My $0.02 Doug St Louis MC9 |

FF-- You might want to hold off for a short while, sirius is making some serious changes that will alter the market for Satellite radio. gary |

Simply because Sirius helped fund my favorite show, I'll go with their brand. They helped to fund FarScape's return as a mini series... so I'll be kind and return the favor and buy their product in appreciation... but not until I'm ready for it. It'd kinda be a waste for me right now to get it since I have no use for it as of yet. Besides, they seem to have the superior product overall. -Kevin |

REALLY? I didn't know that. I love farscape. we get sirius on DishNetwork, and we've found a few great channels. I was going to buy XM, but I think I have changed my mind and will buy Sirius. Gary |

Well, don't get me wrong, XM is probably just as good... but another reason I'm going to opt for Sirius is because the radio I recently bought has built in controls and connections for it... But, the primary reason is Farscape. I don't use DishNet though... I had some problems with them in the past with their hardware and shady contract practices... so I have DirecTV... Overall, I'm much more satisfied with DTV than I was on Dish... Heck, the DTV guy gave me a free dish in addition to the one I have for the house, just for the bus! I can use it temporarily until I can afford a dish meant for RVs... Tell ya what though... Playing PS/2 on a 6 foot diagonal is REALLY nice... can hardly wait to hit it on a 15 foot screen... -Kevin |

The Sirus was a consideration as they carry the John Batchelor program. He is NOT political , but does have fantastic contacts world wide. You get a different perspective when listening to a well traveled native talking about his countrys dreams /problems /heratige , than some Blow Dry with the usual biased axe to grind. But HE is the ONLY thing XM doesnt carry (yet?) and XM is 40% cheaper than Sirus. Still hopeing to find a brand with FM transmitter , built in , as many of my apps have NO ports to plug into , and I'm hopeing for real seamless SIMPLICTTY! Sugestions for brand & model? FAST FRED |

Just looked at a Crutchfield catalog and it appeared that a couple of their units had the FM type hook-up. Try giving them a call as they usually know their products. 1-800-955-9009 |

Fred, my son just bought the new SkyFi2 and really likes it. It has a built in FM modulator. $99 on sale at Circuit City. You will need a car kit for the car, etc. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Delphi-XM--SKYFi2--Satellite-Radio-Receiver--SA10101-/sem/r psm/oid/110773/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do HTH, Bob |

Ok you satelite radio buffs I have a question! How do these units work when traveling through a tunnel or trees??? Iknow the GPS will lose the signal in the tunnel and sometimes when under trees and since the signal is simialar, line of sight, how does your radio react to this? cd |

XM SKYFI car unit works great in our Prevost. Have a small fiberglass antenna "stuck" to cap just above driver side, front side marker (ran antenna wire under marker light) and am very pleased with reception. It will drop in tunnels but has never lost signal due to trees. Have been across the country several times with it and love it. "Hanks Place" is my favorite channel with Classic Country music plus a great variety of talk programming. Pay for three year subscription and save $'s. |

I've had XM for about a year and have traveled all over the Eastern U.S. with it. I never have tried Sirus - too expensive and no Nascar. The only time I go back to FM is for Bob & Tom, the rest of the time it's XM. We have a second in the wife's car and she feels the same - she never thought she'd ever pay for radio. What I'm writing about are two things. First, traveling in mountainous areas, driving close to a shear wall can loose the signal. Or in cities with lots of skyscrapers. I had that happen in NYC and Chicago. Also the FM modulator is not the way to go with XM or Sirus. Wire it in direct and have it go on with the key, much better! Whichever you choose, it's a great way to travel. I drive at least 45,000 miles a year and it was sure boring until I got my XM. |

Instead of buying the satilate system now you need to look at the Sirus stock. It has gone up over 100% in the last couple weeks. At that rate maybe we could all buy a new bus to install their system in. Something to dream about. ARTHUR |

That is because Mel Karmazin former prez of Viacom is taking over as CEO of Sirius. That combined with Howard Stern coming on board and many other additions to the lineup make sirius look like a Tsunami in the Satellite Radio Market. I was on the verge of buying XM until a few weeks ago. Gary |

Fred, The Roady 2 has FM modulation, and can be moved around quite easily. It comes with an antenna that you can pop on top. Plug in the power outlet (lighter), and tune in on your FM receiver and you are ready to go. Home kits and docking units are available. Howard Stearn, BBC, & NPR do NOT draw me to Sirius. I am hoping to see a "Southern Gospel Music channel" on XM very soon and already XM is the better bargan. Jim G. - 1979 RTS-II Ohio |

I am currently listening to SIRIUS Folktown, Singer-songwriters of folk. About 8 channels up is SIRIUS Praise - Gospel about 24 channels down is SIRIUS Spirit - Christian Hits I get my Sirius through my Dish Network, so I only get a fraction of the programming, I don't get the Howard Stern/BBC/NPR.etc... just traditional music that I like. Like you, I wouldn't cross the street to see a howard stern show in person. BBC on the other hand is one of the few marginally accurate sources of journalisim lift in the world. Ford and Chrysler have adopted sirius as their standard, but by all means, Beta is better than VHS after all. Gary |

Sure glad you put in the word MARGINALLY , I find them as Biased as "US State Radio" NPR or PBS . Far more Editorializing than journalism. RUSH is Da Man, ************** Yes we did locate the Roady 2 and are only waiting till the Janurary sales to get one. Thanks for the info folks!! FAST FRED |

I went to test drive a new Mercedes, and they had this great new radio in it. All I had to do was talk to it, and it would find my music. "Country and Western", and it found a good station, "Oldies Rock" and it found some Led Zepplin. Then someone cut me off and I said Asshole. Then it started playing Rush Limbaugh... haarrr haaarr Everybody to his own. BBC does have a perspective that we don't normally hear over here, and although I don't necessarily agree, I find it though provoking. |

I think the BBC is the closest thing to journalisim there is. everyone else, on the right AND the left is just prostituting themselves. Journalistic integrity died the moment furthering a parcicular cause became profitible. Gary |

In another sense, journalistic integrity is like the married man who removes his ring in order to NOT embarass the sweet young thing hanging around the local watering hole. I once was contacted by a newspaper "journalist" about a friend. The journalist, acting as a "reporter", wanted only confirmation of his "story", not the truth. The newspaper's "Statement of Purpose" No. 1 was "First, seek the truth" Upset at this posture, I contacted his editor to explain I had irrefutable proof that the article he was writing was not factually supported. The editor checked with the "journalist". The story went as planned and the "journalist" complained that I was "interfering with the journalistic process" Go figure! Marc Bourget |

Reading late. XM's 131 is BBC World Service and 133 is XM-NPR They also have both left and right 24hr talk stations. Most of the time I listen to 71 - Water Colors, 73 - Frank's Place and 51 - comedy Recently drove 1500 miles and lost signal only in a WY tunnel for less than a minute Garth |
