I picked up a real neat muffler from a guy, it has a 4" inlet at 90 degrees, and a 5" outlet. The interesting thing, and my question, there's a little 1.5" tube welded in that takes a 90 degree bend and ends right in the center of a cool looking "venturi" that's been formed in the outlet. Anyone know what it's function would be? It's a LOT of work to make this configuration, and it's gotta be good.... ????? Heck, maybe I'm confusing the inlet and the outlet... Here's a photo taken looking down the 5" tube: http://www.heartmagic.com/muffler008.JPG |

My best guess is something like what Bill or Joseph describe... I could easily see that with a high engine output it could and would create a good suction on that pipe. I'd love it if someone has actual reference or webpage address pointing to what the vacuum is used for... |

Well, I tried to research it, but couldn't come up with that exact muffler. The mufflers I saw that were similar though, were for off road equipment! Brian |

Any idea what kind of air cleaner would hook up to it? My application is going to be in a REALLY dusty environment... I'd love to find the air cleaner that makes this a "system"...!! ...and thanks Ian for "weeding".... |

Yeah I got on of those out here in my "pile". Mine is off of a John Deere combine. I was going to use it on the Newell but ended up using a new "straight thru" design. It fit better. Dean |
