Jerry, I have an 84 Eagle and am working on the change over this week. I bought a pair of electric Blue Bird Coach wipers, arms, and switches from a bus nut in New Mexico that he bought a few years ago for his MCI but did not use. I have worked on them for many hours. I had to cut the arms on the wiper motor, drill different holes, weld parts to get the correct swing, etc. I think it is going to work out O.K. but alot of work.(Much cheaper than new if it works out} Check with International Bus and Parts. Big rain storm coming today so I will try them out. |

Here's a nugget for all the air-to-electric nuts... I replaced my Trico air units with marine wipers that were virtually the same size and can be adjusted for amount of sweep. They are very heavy duty and I paired them with adjustable length stainless steel arms. All very waterproof and durable. Check them out at http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cgi?prod_id=20845 |

I believe I have a few of those motors, but 24v I need 12V. I looked at some marine ones in West Marine but they were pathetically tiny. something to keep in mind is the size of your wipers in comparison to the size of the marine ones, if the motor is too small it will burn up very quickly. I'd like to find some big ones with wiper transmissions but it's a low priority. Gary |

Thanks to RJL for AM Equip.’s link. Should use unitize version for strength and lower cost in the long run. I pick up several similar units as “Metro Series Unitized” (AM Equip) wiper assembly from large school bus for my Sojourner MCI-8. In Florida orange grove areas, many used school buses are being convert to “orange (fruit) picker hauler”. Good price too………you remove &.FREE from orange hauler builder shop. They discard bus’s body and wait for salvage worker or firm to remove from property. However go for pantograph version to get more complete wipe areas. Pantograph is a parallel arm same as original intercity buses use. AM Equipment has “Metro Unitized” unit which is strongest of all models. Unitize version is support twice onto arm’s shaft bearing housing is stronger & avoid loosen later. Also only have to replace arm’s shaft & housing assembly instead the whole motor unit. http://www.amequipment.com/wiper.html Look for “Metro” in the list. They have “Bus Conversion Kit” but e-mail them if it “unitize” version and have 30 Nm stall torque or more. PS…….If your going to Jack’s 2005 BUSSIN rally in Arcadia, Florida, perhaps you will find some school bodies around orange country to gather wiper motors. Be sure it unitize version. http://www.busnut.com/bussin2005/ For what it’s worth. Sojourn for Christ, Jerry |
