We hit a milestone this week, when we finished our topside insulation and sound dampening. We also finished most of the vinyl in the front, walls and roof of the bus(MC9. It's actually warm in there despite some pretty cold Seattle days. I now have the dash torn apart and am designing a new one, along with relocating all the switches along the drivers window into a unit which will have an arm rest. As I sit in the drivers seat, I realize that there is a lot of spece forward that is not insulated. I wonder what others have done with this area. Michael |

I use 1 1/2" rigid insulation. Cut pieces to fit, then spray foom the rest. Ron |

I used Reflectix Insulation I bought a roll at Lowes 48"X 25' To cover the inside front below the dash of my P8M4905A applied with foil tape so far so good. It has a R-4.91 rating which is better than the bare skin on the front of the bus. Rest of the bus roof&sides was spray foamed. J.L.Vickers |

Hello Michael. There is a bit of space between the outside skin and the kick panel under the dashboard. If your front skins need replacing, easy to use a conbo of solid styrofoam and foam in a can while the front is off. However, you will still have the issues of air intrusion through the defroster, the floor where the pedals and steering pass through, the door, and the windshields are huge heat sinks, pulling heat in or out of the coach, depending on conditions. Two Dogs is on the right track. Blocking off the front end just back of the driver's seat with a floor to ceiling curtain lets you "ignore" these next to impossible challenges. He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day? happy coaching! buswarrior |

Michael, We are at the same point in our conversion. roof raised, insulation done, etc. I am now doing the dash. Well, it started out that way, but after I removed all the old stuff and discovered the rust, I had to dig a little farther and do some fixing. It looks like I am going to have to insulate behind the dash the best I can and really be careful to insulate the lower floor under the driver and the steps. There are so many openings around the front bumper to let the air in. I can see it being a challenge trying to insulate everything up there without limiting access to valves, air lines and wires that I may need to fix in the future. |
