HI Kids, Well I spoke too soon on my 1960 4104, it ran at 170 from daytona to columbia sc and back. i let it sit for a month and was bringing it back home for my move to long beach. Only drove it about 10 miles and stopp to wash off the lower part of the motor at a car wash, left it running, and now the temp went to 200 for the last 5 miles home. not sure why it did that, any ideas? what is a normal operating temp for this 671 |

Todd, mine runs at 170-175 no matter what. I would take some readings with a heat gun to see if the sender is wrong. I also installed a mechanical gauge in the engine compartment to verify the electric setup. Jim-Bob |

a few years ago I did a PA to CA trip in mine. going up the slight grade Westbound From grand junction CO...it got hot......did the standard nurse thing....and once I got to San Diego I took it to the DD shop there to have the thermostat checked/changed. the test run in San Diego showed normal op temps...although the air temp was 20 degrees cooler than what I had in Ut and NV. driving north from San Diego it got hot again running into the LA basin......nursed it north and did a night Donner Pass Run and took it to the Reno Sparks DD dealer....... it was found there that the Rad was clogged.....turned out 75% clogged.......note this was after 5 years or so with this radiator and no issues. test run in SNV was fine but also done in eve with cooler temps. Running West from Reno the damn thing was getting hot again.....got to West yellowstone MT and parked it for 4 months.....started it up and it would not get to operating temp and produced no heat......activated the shutters and could get it warm enough to drive. upon return home flushed the radiator thouroughly and pulled the Heater and defroster cores.....flushed those and got several pounds of paint and muck out of them...then took them and had them tanked.......no prob since combined problem I believe......some crap let loose in the cooling system and eventually clogged the radiator....this may have been contributed to or compicated by mixing the two types of radiator Fluid......they do not mix and create a mud like substance. 4 years later....... no problems |

My 4104/671 while running will go as high as 185( Which the rear bedroom, manual gauge says 195 ) then will suddenly drop down to 155, I assume this is when the thermostate opens and dumps the hot and allows the cool to enter the engine. John |
