I'm looking for busnuts who have done a GMC repower with a 6V92ta and Allison automatic.. A few days ago, my 6V92, made some power. The trans and engine are in place and nearly ready to test drive. I'd like to connect with others with the same goals. We can exchange lots of info. Send me a email and let's talk. Frank Rowe Idaho rbus4107@magiclink.com

Welcome!

> Need info on repower 4104. Am putting in 6V92TA out of RTS and V-730 Allison. Do I need '06 pumpkin for rear end?

You need the entire rear axle, not just the pumpkin. There is a difference in the lateral location of the pumpkins between the 4104 and 4106/7/8 'n 4905 models.

> What radiator is best?

A big one! Seriously, because of the smaller radiator opening in the body of the '04, you're going to have to use a thicker-cored unit to handle the additional heat load.

> What type of fan is best?

The old one may work, or you may be able to use the one off the RTS. Whatever you do, make sure the surrounding shroud is in place, as it helps to draw more air thru the radiator.

> On 6V92TA what injectors do you use to get from 250 hp to 350?

I believe it's 9G90s.

> And do you need to change the turbo?

I believe the scroll ratio is different for the different HP requirements, so, yes, the turbo also will have to be changed. Geoff, jump in here.

> Also will my jakes off-inline 4-valve 6-71 fit the 6v92?

Yes, but there is a difference in the jumpers, if my (fading) memory serves.

You're welcome! 8^)

The turbo is probably a .96 A/R which would be fine with the 9G90 injectors. The person you need to talk to is Jim Stacy, who frequents the boards. He has a 4104 with the 6V92TA conversion. But as an RTS owner I don't understand why you don't just keep the RTS.

High Guys,

I agree with most of above. The whole rear axle doesn't have to be changed if the new cradle is properly aligned. The '06 and later gearset must be used, however. Drive shaft MUST be straight or you will never get the vibration out.

RTS had a great cooling system but the fan is too large for an '04 without major body work.

Heat will be a BIG problem, espicially if you raise the HP. Thick core, major league fan with full shroud, Hayden trans cooler, 8V92 water pump, perhaps Hayden fans in clutch door, etc.
