I would like install spring brakes on my 5a what do i do with the third hose that goes to the air can. Please help Thanks jeff |

jeff you need a differant distributer valve to feed the can you will have a service side and an emergency side i would only put the spring brakes on the middle axle if you have a three axle bus my crown has them on both axles im taking them off the back axle as i think its overkill to have them on both |

I cannot imagine any reason in the world to take a spring brake off of an axle if it is already there.
You may think it is overkill now but sometime when you are parked, or think you are parked, and the axle without the spring brake is touching the ground and the axle with the spring brake isn't, you will find out why having two axles with spring brakes is a nice idea.
Also, if for some reason you should lose your service brakes, having two axles braking to slow you down is a whole lot better than just one axle.
I am of the opinion that one can never have too much braking capacity or redundancy.

hey guys
i do agree with you to a point i have been in the heavy trucking ind for a lot af years and i can tell you very few heavy trucks put spring brakes on both rear axles yes there may come a time when i will have to make an adjustment or two when i park but i can tell you redundantcy can come with a price im now a full time aircraft tech i hold an a&p license and one of the things that you will find is that every time you add a component the probability of failure squares itself. |

I think that you will find that you only have parking brakes, be they spring or air operated, on the drive axle now. It is illegal to install any type of parking brake can on the steer axle, and most tag axles only have service cans on them. FWIW... MR |
