Have been in discussion about the best coating for an Eagle frame. Any suggestions?

I don't know anything specific about Eagles, but for my Flxible which had some surface rust, I went to my local industrial coatings dealer. They sold me a two part epoxy type stuff that is used to coat old steel bridges on the East Coast. It is sort of a flourescent green color unless it is pigmented. Since I was coating the inner frame where it would not see sunlight, I didn't bother to pigment it. Anyway, I sprayed it on with a Binks gun and my air compressor. Seems to make a nice hard shell that encapsulates any existing rust. Suppose I won't really know how effective it is for another 20 years. . . Anyhoo, don't know if this is relevant to your situation. . .just what I did. . .

I have used a product called POR15. This stuff is incredible. I experimented with a friends car (he went on vacation and left it at my place) which had several areas where the rust peeled the paint away leaving large 4 to6" diameter surface rust spaces on his doors and body.

They say to just brush it off, use their cleaner and bond and paint this on, just like paint.

The only thing you notice is it is real runny till it cures, about 20 to 30 minutes. It dries real hard, actually adding some metal strength and it seals the rust area. His rust never came back, at least where I treated it.

I have also used in on new metal for my storage compartment racks, looking good also. AND I used it on my propane tank for additional protection.

One thing you must know, if you get it on your clothes, you wont get it off, ever. Use rubber gloves, if you get it on your skin, it has to wear off, 3 to 7 days. If you are going to spray it, get the thinner to clean the gun and clean the gun right away. If you use a brush, use a cheap one, you wont be able to clean it.

I have tried many types of so called rust inhibitors and I think this is the best. Of the many metals, clean and or rusted, none of them have ever had rust return after a year of observation.-cd
