Why do we cross out Christ in Christmas? Isn't it why we celebrate this wonderful holiday, The birth of Christ. Give him the Glory he desires. Thanks and God Bless All of You.

The "X" shouldn't matter, it's the thought that counts;
the passing of good will and good wishes.

The "X" was an early Christian symbol.

It's actually just a shorthand expression

Because not so long ago, most of the christian world was illiterate, but the one thing anyone could express in writing was the name of Christ.

But...well....it's a pagan holiday in the first place.

(That should make me popular)

Probably not popular, Gary, but correct.

It's the Christian adoption of the pagan winter solctice celebration.

Bobbo: Not to mention that not everyone, no not even in the US, celebrates Christmas or the birth of Christ. I'm not aware of any edict that prevents YOU from using the Christ part if that is YOUR choice, but it isn't necessarily a view that all share. Some of us are just illiterate pagans that celebrate 4 days late. I would share my Politically Correct Holiday Greeting and my PC "Night Before Christmas" but I somehow get the feeling that you would not appreciate the humor of them. At any rate, MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and yours.

Also when those (not saying anyone here) try to X out Christ they really can't. In the old Greek the first letter in Christmas is an X.

About “X” or “Christ” for annual celebration.

First of all, who is X?

Mean anyone right!

“Christ” means only Jesus Christ, the Lord of Lord.

http://www.geocities.com/~perkinshome/christinchristmas.html

We do not know exact day but one day set a-side for birth of Jesus Christ which is December 25th of each year.

He my & your saviour for just trusting in Him. KJV John 3:16

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all, my friends!

According to the book Did you ever Wonder... by Jeff Rovin, the word for Christ in Greek is Xristos. The use of the shortened form "Xmas" became popular in Europe in the 1500s.

I had never hear the "Not breaking a commandment" reference. that is interesting.

Even though I am not a Christian myself, I do Celebrate the holiday as a time of good spirit and generosity.

I believe very strongly in everyone's right to worship as they see fit, as long as it does no harm.

So, Merry Christmas.

It's spelled "Psanda" in many countries, and represents the
believers in ultra-liberal governments, of the collecting of money
from those that work and distributing it to those less compelled
to earn a living.

The "Psanda Clause" is part of the constitution of those countries.

I hope that helps.

I have to say, 2000 years have come and gone and JESUS is still creating controversy between people. Truth is, our opinion does not change WHO HE IS, but it does have an impact in our life. Liar, lunatic, or LORD? The grave is empty, that's good enough for me!

And one of these days this newbie/confused busnut will figure out all of my repower options, what engine w/ what transmission w/ what rearend?????

Hey Gary, Two Dogs has been bad too. At least I thought so for a bit. A lady, next door camper to his bus, came panting in on her bicycle to my house yesterday, complaining that Two Dogs had chased her on her bicycle for a half mile! Knowing that Two Dogs would surely do just that if he could, it did not seem he would be physically capable of such a feat. Upon quizzing her more, she mentioned that neither of the dogs bit her! Just gotta change his name. This has about as much to do with buses as the rest of the posts, huh?

For it to have been OUR Two Dogs chasing that camper lady, they would have had to be involved in a carnal act... Leastwise that's what his pappy said. <ho> <ho> <ho> (grin)

To answer the first question, I do not know, since I am not religiously orientated.

I asked a religious type friend and she told me if refers to the first letter of Christ's name ("X") in the middle (older) type of written Greek used at the time of Christ in the middle east.
