Found this interesting MCI bus conversion shown here: http://dieselpushers.com/images/coaches/DP200%2012BIG.jpg on www.dieselpushers.com Wondering is anyone would like to comment on this particular style with the skylight windows or anything in general about this rig, pros, cons...etc. I really like the overhead windows. It appears to let in a lot of natural light. Thankyou. |

Looks suspiciously like a blatant advertisement to me and should be in the commercial section. I have no idea why anyone would want this much natural light. And unless there is some very high quality shades available, it would be like an oven in most areas of the country during the summer and you would freeze during cold weather. Richard |

I am not advertising this conversion but rather seeking opinions on the skylight type windows and the conversion in general. I am not the owner, but looking for a conversion to buy and thought this one looked interesting because of the skylight windows. |

I believe this was a factory option on the 8--not many took them up on it. I think they also made some 5's with these. 3-4 yrs. ago I saw one in a boneyard. Most of the roof was rusted away around the ceiling glass inserts. As DML also points out, even if they didn't leak, what a source of heat in the desert sun! |

Sorry if I wrongly accused you. Many of the anonymous posters have an axe of some kind to grind. Richard |

Looks great other than: Where do the cabinets go? Don't ever go where it rains. Who cleans all that glass? Other than those minor points it looks intriguing. Gary |

Infoseeker, May I suggest that you consider a 7 from our selection of four bus ads, featured in our "Buses for Sale" section. Three of the four are also priced lower than the one you seek elsewhere. Additionally, don't forget that the "free" ad at dieselpushers.com will cost the seller $2,025. in commission when he sells the bus. Guess who the seller will pass that on to??? Correct... you. Thank you. Ian Giffin www.busnut.com Home of the $50. ad! <-- Blatent advertising |

Here is a picture of an original MCI "Skyview" found on this site: http://www.busnut.com/busstop/bsh032.html Does anyone know the history of the "Skyview", like 1. where were they used 2. were they built for special areas, ie mountain passes, scenic areas, 3. years built...? I find them an interesting design with the top glass. Thankyou. |

the guy i bought my mci9 from had a mci8 that had the sky windows in it.... i really liked it... from the extra light standpoint... but greg talked me out of it... pointed out the cost of leaky windows ruining the interior conversion... the cost of replacement seals as necesary...and themci 8 doesnt have a flat flor.. it has an aisle that is lower than the seating area.. something else to deal with on a conversion... good luck in your search... |

A couple of years ago, my buddy restored a GM new look suburban with the sigtseeer option. That's 16 skylight windows that needed new rubber. Replacing the ubber wasn't cheap. |

GM offered these on the buffalos as well as the fishbowl suburban, sightseer windows were also available on Flx Clippers, and MCI's up through the MC-9 They are neat but leakage and glass replacement is an issue, I would pass |

I love the sky lights. Problems or not, sure wish I had them. Its like a house with windows,I love windows. What a nice lighting system. Like any other windows, they can be blanked or covered up as needed. A bedroom with these would be the whip on a stary night... And each to there own. I love them. Larry Naturopath 96A3 85/04 |

The skylites are great. My MC-9 is a skylite model and I left 5 of the skylites in the forward area when I had my windows blanked out. I also left the two small skylites in the bedroom ceiling. They really let in a lot of light, but as someone previously mentioned, they can also let in a lot of heat; particularly in this Georgia sun! To remedy that problem, I installed tambour panels (similar to a roll top desk) that can be closed when I'm sitting in direct sunlight. It's just like the sunroof in your car. You have to have a way to block the sun or you will roast. With the tambour closures I made, I can cool my Coach with 2 roof air units when it's sitting in direct sunlite at 98 degrees! I can also cool the Coach with my central air unit as long as I am hooked up to 50 amp service. The only real problem I have with my skylites is that they are made of lexan. Over the years they have developed stress cracks (similar to airplane windows), so they are not clear. Replacement windows with that shape and contour are just simply not available. But they don't leak and I'm glad I have them. |
