Ace and others have trouble from time to time in cleaning contacts and being sure that they are clean. I have used the following product (DeoxIT, D5) for many many years and it is, in my opinion, far superior to anything else on the market. It is rather expensive, but a small amount will do wonders on anything electrical. It is difficult to find in stores but I just noticed on their web page that it is now available at Radio Shack. Try it you'll like it. And no I do not have any stock in the company. www.caig.com Richard |

Richard, I heartily second that. The original stuff Caig made was called "Cramolin R-5" which is amazing for electronics equipment, switches, relays, potentiometers, etc. Due to EPA red tape over the propellant and solvent, they had to discontinue it and come up with the new stuff, D5. Why is it so good? Because it not only cleans any resistive oxidation off of a contact (much better than the competition) - via a carefuly buffered PH solution it then leaves an itsy bitsy molecular layer of it's own behind that inhibits any further oxidation of the contact. That's the trick the others have missed... it cleans things better than most and then makes sure the problem won't re-occur. That, plus it's solvent will not, like some other cleaners, dissolve plastics or insulating materials that the device is made with, it's the best stuff on the market. I should have stock in the company, but like Richard, I don't either... |
