Overfueling. This can be controlled by your foot or by a throttle delay. |

Too much fuel getting dumped into the engine due to: 1. Larger injectors than are called for 2. Poor rack adjustment 3. A heavy right foot that's too used to automobile driving It's usually #3 |

With 450,000 miles it could be low compression from shot rings , or rusted & pitted cylinder walls from too much sitting with out preservation. The COLOR if the smoke would help the diagnosis, also miles per gallon of lube oil. FAST FRED |

If it was bad rings or bad cylinder walls, it would smoke all the time not just when pulling away from a stop sign. Richard |

you are just giving it more fuel than it can burn...instead of instant acceleration...a diesel needs to be raised in r.p. m. more slowly...if you see a hill,start building your speed BEFORE you get to it |
