I found this damaged machine in ebays back 40's and was wondering if anyone would like to comment on any parts of the conversion, good or bad and estimated cost to repair to road worthy condition.

Please add anything you think would be helpful.

This one cost $450k, has 50k miles and is 4 yrs old.

Just had a moderate accident, right? People on this board could repair it right? How much do you think they would charge and how much time would it take?

Do you think the insurance company considered it a total loss and paid off the insurer?

I thought this was interesting. Quoting from the seller:

"THIS IS NOT A REGULAR RV, THIS IS A 500,000-1,000,000 MILE COACH.

NOW THIS BUS WITH 30-40 THOUSAND DOLLARS PUT IN IT WILL BE WORTH 250-350,000.00. CLEAR TITLE!!! YOU DO THE MATH! I AM SELLING THIS UNIT FOR MY BROTHER IN-LAW, WHICH HAS NO TIME TO BUILD IT, BUT HE HAS TOLD ME NOT TO RUN IT AGAIN, HE WILL FINISH IT."

What do you think about what he's saying?

As someone pointed out the other day, they are not selling it for 50k--that was the opening price. There are more than a few conflicting comments made by the owner. He stated that all the parts to fix it were in the bay---what I saw in the bay were a couple of boxes in one area, hardly enough to put a new front end on the bus. I also doubt the original price as stated. It is not an elaborate executive conversion, probby more in the area of 350-400k when new. There also appears to be some damage in teh rear, perhaps from having been "sandwiched" in an accident. One thing for sure, I'd test that inverter and if it still serviceable, move it. Keep in mind, this is in reality a Dina, made in Mexico, and they have a poor reputation from their Viaggio model, a piece of crap. It is a torsilastic suspension bus, and if those mount points on the chassis are dislocated from their original position you've got major work ahead.

i thnk if it were such as "good deal' that only needed $25k to make $300k, why didnt the owner just pay a rebuilder to do it... kinda fishy....doesn't take much time to call someone on the phone.....

Bob-

You oughta' get a screwdriver antenna for that Neoplan. I had
one on our Winnegarbage and it worked great 10-80.

Stick a fork in that one 'cause I think it's done!
Looks like there is a salvage opportunity, but I wouldn't pay much. It almost looks like it went over in its side.

Hey John! You read my mind. I have one, a really nice one too, see it at http://www.hiqantennas.com/
Charlie, the designer, lives close to me. Great guy. He threw in the capicitance hat, quick disconnect, and quick changes for the whips. Really nice stuff. I have the Hi-Q-4/80 RT. I only plan to use it while stopped, it will go on top of the bus. Should put out a good signal. Maybe I can give out some new states and some VE's an XE's and such. I really like HF mobile, but I only have a few countries while mobile, been all over the states though. Looking forward to doing a lot more of it. 73 John! Bob N6AAB http://www.qrz.com/callsign/n6aab

Nice looking antennas!

I had the competitor's brand mounted on the rear of the RV.
The whip was shorter and I mounted it keeping the coil
(when using lowest freqs) just below the roof. I worked cw
mobile and never got into contesting....

The load/tuning coil was also narrower on mine, but longer
length, so wind resistance wasn't as much a problem as the
4-5" coils on some of those models. The lesser expensive
ones (like mine) do deteriorate and I'll have to make some
repairs to both coil and motor if and when I get it up and
running again.

I'll squeeze out my call to ya' when I find a nice unobtrusive
way to do it without setting off my fits of paranoia.

'Till then, very, very 73!
