I'm interested in what themes you all are using, just for curiosity. Since I haven't actually started on my conversion yet, I can't say what my theme *IS*, but, I can say what it's going to *BE*. My bus will be themed with Dragons. The side will be painted with dragons, the inside will have dragons from front to back and in between (since my bus is an Articulated, that's kind of an "inside" joke. ) I've seen lots of conversion pics, but very few have any thematic elements to them. Most are just put together with living in mind, which isn't a bad thing mind you... But when I convert my bus, I want something that stands out from the "norm", thus, the theme. I think I'll paint in red dragons up front, then white dragons in the middle, then blue dragons in the rear... Somewhat like signifying a hot ride up front, and a cool ride from behind. Kindof hard to explain, but if you can envision it. Just curious about your rigs and what your plans are, if any, for these elements of curiosity. -Kevin |

I am having the same debate with myself. I keep trying to come up with a classy paint scheme that accentuates the retro-classic lines on my Gillig. You know, a color combination like the Six Flags bus. But somehow, maybe because if the paint scheme from the previous owner... or a mis-spent youth, I keep getting flashback visions of a tie-dyed paint scheme with yellow smiley faces , peace symbols , and who knows.... I guess I'd better stick with "classy" if I don't want to spend a good part of my road trippin' talking to the highway patrol. Gillig-Dan '70 Gillig 636D |

I found an old VW emblem from the front of a "micro-bus" to put on the front of my MC9. That is my only reference to my "hippie days" of long ago. It is chrome and will be mounted against polished SS so it will barely be visable. The idea is that my micro-bus grew up. I owned a micro-bus long ago. The rest of the coach will be modern and a 3 shades of blue with a sweeping upward paint toward the rear - looks kinds modern commercial. As with the bus - I grew out of my hippie days too. Art Deco Modern Starship with lots of tuck and roll plus interior crome and plastic with no wood finishes at all with everything in a very light blue and white color scheme to lighten up the interior.... ....and having an exterior yellow stripe paint job on the exterior applied with good cheap paint and finish brushes along with the required red and green flame job coming out of the middle engine hatches on both sides... ....and more large accent stripes running up from the rear drivers (all eight of 'em) up to the very required fake warp engines on the rear roof (NCC-1701 era) Crown Super Coach. 100 mph. Honey...can I have some more wine please? |

I've often wondered how some of those highly decorated bus conversions are listed in the "vehicle color" block on the vehicle title. My bus came with flashy (yucky) racing theme colors. Too many to list. The new paint job will be generic ... polished stainless below and very light metal flake gray on the sides. Roof will be white. Drab, eh? Doubt I'll get an invite to join up with the Prevost Prouds. Interior theme (and I use the term loosely) will be a modified Art Deco ... well sorta. Trying to avoid sharp corners, and frilly "stuff". The more I research Art Deco styles on the internet, the more I appreciate "the look". I'm anything but an expert on art styles and trends, but I know what I like when I see it. |

Mine will just be painted gray with silver trim, probably with a silver roof. I'm considering taking my friend up on his offer to airbrush a crossed-flag graphic below the driver's window. Haven't decided which flag, though. |

Hey, I am beginning to resemble that remark! LOL. With all the wood and gold mirrored ceiling in the living room, our bus has been described by a friend as "opulent country". The exterior is mostly ultra white ( to help limit the absopbtion of radiant heat in FLorida). Only enough red stripes for a little accent. Jack |

It has nothing to do with building an amusement park. Just your "personal touch". Some people like to fit themes into their houses, or rooms, or their cars or whatever. Just something that's visually appealing, and personally interesting. I can see that pretty much everyone has their own ideas, and I haven't seen anyone share an idea to what they want to do. It's nice that everyone is as varied on their opinions and ideas as they are. It's nice, ya know? ---- Dan, Hippies, huh? Hehehe... We need more ya know. Our government has forgotten what the sting of a good political movement within our country really feels like. ---- Doug, That's a very inspirational story... but, why would you grow out of your hippie days? Does that mean you're a conformist now? I'm very much non-conformist. ---- JTNG, How drab. :p ---- Merlin, I dunno how it'll work with the buses, but with cars/vans/trucks, I've noticed that our DMV puts down the primary color (base coat) and the secondary color that shows most.... And they ask you what you want to put on the title if you say "no" to "Is it still the same color?" That's how the DMV here works... dunno about elsewhere yet. ---- 2D, I've always liked the western themes. Very simple and plain, but very eye appealing. Geometrical patterns with slightly contrasting colors... It was a tossup for me between dragons and western... I ultimately chose dragons because I figured fewer people would be doing them. ---- Brian, Maybe you should get a bunch of those DVD's and sell them double price as an entry ticket into your bus. Then, after the show's over and they go home, they'll have something to take with them and remember the weird guy that came through with pole dancers and beer... Of course, they'll have incentive to find you again next time you're through. They'll have lookouts posted at every road into and out of town just to make sure you don't slip through unnoticed! ---- Jack, My base coat will be ultra white, for the same reasons... the roof will have a coat of that reflective paint, I don't remember the brand name, it's common for our sector of the market.... And yea, I remember Florida. I lived up in Tally for a year or two... the 3:15pm rain showers could be timed to the second, it was really eerie. But the summers, even in Tally, were very hot and muggy. Reminded me of Louisiana, which is where I'm stuck now. I'm getting out of here soon though. ---- Henry.... A starship? I'd love to see you pull that one off! ---- Glad to see this thread sparked a little interest. Anyone else got a theme going or thought of? It has nothing to do with running an amusment park... it's just a personal touch. -Kevin |

Guess I will call our theme Dutchman Transformed. As you see most all of the interior was from the totaled 6 month old Dutchman travel trailer. No real theme inside other than just keep it clean, new and bright. And someday be able to remodel... The exterior of a private coach should represent achievement. Be clean, have a fine finish to match the class and caliber of fine coach. Owning your own private coach is an achievement and does not come cheep. Our coach will one day be making Naturopathic Education Stops from town to town. As my wife follows her heart in the Nathuropathic field. We hope to keep the exterior detailed not over done with lots of colors and stripes. So when the Therapist wife rolls into town she will get the recognition of her Healthy success. And her driver "Me" will be proud to be polishing the the fine lady therapists bus...ya know ! The "Naturopath" our theme/plan MCI Larry Naturopath 96A3 85/04 |

Adame: "Floor covering will be old timey looking linoleum." Interesting, since I also considered linoleum (the real stuff, not fake). It's tough as nails and will wear forever.
