Folks, Looking at the more common '70's-era 40' highway buses (Eagle 10, MCI7, MCI8, early MCI9s, GMs such as the 4509, others?), which have more usable interior height and width? Note that I'd prefer a glass rear window of at least some sort. The MCI9 seems to have "issues" regarding rear interior being eaten with high-mount radiators. The MCI7 has the center aisle of only 14". Are any of the others significantly better in terms of usable interior space? |

The V mounted engines leave coaches with the longest run of floor space , compared to the T setup in the same size. . FAST FRED |

I chose the MC9 because: -It has the most usable floor space. -The height is fine for most normal people. -Since the bed usually goes in the rear, the short "box" across the back is actually a benefit, giving a solid base for the bed. -The passenger section is at the windshield height, allowing you to sit in your new "living room" and see directly out the windshield, rather than look down at the road. I'm at a total loss regarding "high mount radiators"; dunno' watcha' mean; donna' hava' clue. As far as a "rear window"? Unless you like the sun blasting it's heat into the bedroom while you drive; the winter cold making it more difficult to heat the bedroom at night; less privacy; more shades; less room to build upon for closets, and less insulation from ambient outside noise at night....at pillow height... Why? Why a rear window? I'm not in love with the MCIs, but from all things considered, it's the easiest to convert and allows the most use of it's interior. |

The Gmc 4905 has a more curved roof kinda like a airstream trailer so a side aisle is not a good idea. The split floor can be hard to work around. In the front some like me just extend to the front leaving the driver sitting lower. But the upper floor is level all the way to the rear 6'4" head room down the center and goes back closer to the rear of the bus so if you extend the front you end up with more floor space then most others. Something to also think about is with the buses other then the GMC you will have more motor and trans to pick from in a repower The GMC does have the easest to work on motor and trans no belts or extra gear boxs and the radiator is low on the side just like all the new buses are now and just 1 not 2 like the MCI the down side V drives not made in the USA any more and will get hard to find some rear ends and trans. If it was me Id buy a newer MCI and stay away from the older ones the 10k extra you spend will be less in the long run on fixing a older bus. Brian 4905 Klamath Falls Oregon |

Also in a 4905, if you put on a rear cap and take out the window, it gives most a full width closet behind the bed, or over the motor, but there goes your rear window of course. |
