Maybe this is not "bus related" but a lot of us veterans do or plan to travel in our buses upon retirement. Here is an excerpt from the VA web site:
"Benefits on the Go
VA enrollment allows health care benefits to become portable throughout the entire VA system. Enrolled veterans who are traveling or who spend time away from their primary treatment facility may obtain care at any VA health care facility across the country without the worry of having to reapply."

Hi Merlin,

Apparently it works fine, too. I was chatting with a gentleman (pictured with his bus in the Bussin' 2005 pix, #015) who confided in me that he has an ongoing medical concern which he gets looked after on the road at various VA health care facilities. Deservedly so, might I add.

I guess a trip can take a little more planning, but is do-able.

He and his wife are going to full-time later this year.

Good plan.

Excellent Post Merlin....and Thanx Ian for the lift.

Things are achangin' at the VA and I can personally attest that the new system does work!

For all you veterans, just give it a try. I think they really mean it!!!

I don't use the VA system but at least it is nice to finally hear of something good about them! It's way overdue in coming.

We travel fulltime in our MCI 8. In mid-December I had cataract surgery on my left eye at the VA hospital in Lexigton, KY., just before those nasty storms came through.

We wanted to get further south, so the hospital in Lexington arranged for my one month follow-up exam to be at the VA hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Had that appointment today, and no problem going from one to the other.

In fact, now the prescription between my two eyes is very significant and I may need surgery on the other eye to bring them into the same range. Since we will be in this area, Gainesville VA is taking care of all of that. Even ordered me new glasses. I'm impressed.

However, I will say that the VA hospital here in Lake City, Florida (where we are staying), just 45 miles north of Gainesville, is a strong reminder of the old VA attitude. I tried for almost a year to get into their system originally, and they basically told me to go away. Would not even issue me my VA card. When I went to the Lexington VA hospital I was enrolled, was issued my ID card, and had my first appointments scheduled, all within about 40 minutes!

So the system is much improved, but still has some dead wood that needs to be trimmed.
