The 4104 book calls for straight 140w gear lube for normal operation. Are the multigrade lubes such as 85w-140 acceptable for this differential? Not sure if it needs the straight lube or if multigrade was just not popular in 1953. Let me know what you are using or which would be the best.

I use the 85-140 in mine and haven't had any trouble. I think the straight is getting hard to find.

I use multi grade too it does just fine and ive seen them run the 90 like cars use with no problem
