Here's my delema. My bus has an air leak issue and the front will not air up. It's not anything too serious for someone who knows what they are doing to find but it's not one of the normal things either. No matter, It's been sitting at the Peterbuilt place in Anchorage and they will not pull it inside and fix the thing for me no matter how much I beg. It runs good but I need the air issue which may be my front bi-fold doors causing it, and I need all the fluids drained and replaced, air filters, all diagnostics, make sure the heat works, etc etc...Basically get me ready for my drive out of here in March. However, I'm having trouble finding anyone up here who can help me and I was wondering if anyone had any contacts up here for me to get in touch with to help me out. It's tough up here in winter and i'm told I'll need to get the bus inside and thawed out for it to be fixed..Anyway if anyone has any info I would appreciate it..Thanks |

first why will peterbuilt not work on it? next if you know that it is not something simple why do you not fix it your self? now the help, there is a company there that runs transit buses go talk to them they might fix it for you or one of the guys that work there you might be able to hire to give you a hand. |

Mel....It's something that someone who has mechanical experience on the bus will be able to fix..I have my ideas about what it can be but I can't find what's wrong..I've looked. The Bus needs to be inside so everything thaws out and it's too cold to work on it outside according to a Bus Guy I talked to up here. I don't have the knowledge to fix it myself either. The Peterbuilt place will not fix it and I don't know why. They have been saying they will get to it in a few days for 4 months and I think they guy was giving me lip service and waiting for until I got frustrated and took it eleswhere but since the front will not air up, I can't drive it anywhere else. I have consulted with a Bus guy up here and he said It needs to be inside to work on up here this time of year. This guy doesn't have the time or facilities to help me out but if worse comes to worse, he'll come down on a Sat and see if we can at least find the air problem so I can get it out of there. I'm not hopefull because we can't even get the bus to warm up enough so that the Heat blows hot hair, thus allowing the windows to defrost so I could drive it out of there even if the front would Air up. Bad situation. The bus guy gave me a couple ideas and one bus company up here that may take outside work so i'm going from there. |

Hi Sean Back to the real world after a hot Florida vacation A. Hope you had a good time ! As for the bus problem, I will drive up and fix it for you. Get me your address and I will make the 5300 mile drive. I should arrive about May.....JUST KIDDING, wish I could help. I know its not funny to have a coach problem you can`t fix. Plus being in BFE in the middle of winter don`t help. A music man will do what it takes to get the job done. So keep knocking on them doors. Someone up there can help. Even if you have to put an ad in the local news paper asking for help finding a bus mechanic. Best of luck with the bus. You will get her fixed. Your bud in Michigan, where its been -15 to -20 over the week-end. To cold to work on my coach too. Larry Naturopath 96A3 85/04 |

Sean, if you can find a safe way to add some alcohol the the air system and use some dunnage to run the front wheels up seven or eight inches, it really might not be that bad to service those lines and find the leak. If you use a portable compressor, you can air up the coach without starting the engine. Then, with the compressor turned off, you might be able to hear the leak. Unhook the link for the front leveling valve when you have air and see if moving the valve lever has any effect on the air bags. If it doesn't, then loosening the air line going from the air valve to the bags will let you know if air is reaching that point. If it is, then check the air bags for leaks. If you have to use soapy solution to do this, be careful about the solution you use so you don't freeze it up. Good luck getting this sorted out. Tom Caffrey PD4106-2576 Suncatcher |
