Question: 1980 Eagle 8V71 5spd. It has been sitting for 2 months during the winter. I plugged the block heater in overnight, made sure the 3 starting batteries were charged, and even used a little ether. The engine cranks at a good speed, but no start. Like it is not getting fuel. But I would think a shot of ether in the air intake would get it to at least start even for a second, but it does not. Any ideas? Thanks

Where is the cut off switch? I know of a main switch away from the engine which I thought was the main shutoff, but is there one on the engine itself? If so, can you describe exactly where it is? I'm not an expert with these engines. Thanks

One other note. I have 2 buttons next to my key. I usually hold in the right button for starting. Sometimes both. What are 2 buttons for?

I would think one switch is a nutral over ride ?
The emergency cut off switch should be planly marked on the dash you use it when the motor will not shut off and is running faster and faster You pust it before it blows up A DD 2cly will run on its motor oil or if the rack sticks open.
Look to see if you have any white smoke comming out the tail pipe when you try to start.
I would stay away from starting ether it will do more harm then good.

I would guess it lost its prime if the stop plunger on the govner is in when you turn on to run. IF it has fuel to the enjectors it should start.

Thanks. I think I now know where the spring loaded mechanism is. I get no white smoke on starting, and if I use a little ether straight in the air intake, it doesn't even bite on that.

Now on the emergency shutoff mechanism... I can slide the lever and it has tension, but it does not lock. If I slide the lever to the left, is this the normally open position? It doesn't seem to catch. I did notice a solenoid with air lines which is probably operated from the switch on the dash, but I need to know why it would not "lock" back in place. Thanks
