Sitting down here south of San Antonio, shivering in 60 degree weather, we Texans watch in amazement at your Minnesota weather guys hammering nails with frozen bananas in -54 degree temps. No wonder those Ohio State Buckeyes were having such a great time at the Alamo Bowl. I plead total ignorance as to how anyone can do anything more than 10 feet from a wall heater in those temps. What do you busnuts do with your coaches in the winter? Can you work on them at all? Does the diesel turn to honey? and the oil? I feel for you guys. You are welcome to come down to Texas and spend your $$$ to stimulate our economy. David Anderson |

Man, I feel their pain too... Here in Vegas, it is 66 degrees as I type, and it's 5:30 pm. High temp was 70 today. The forecast calls for more of the same tomorrow! I grew up in Massachsetts so I know a little bit about cold weather, lived in it for 21 winters. Will NEVER do it again. But y'know we feel sorry for the guys living in what seems to us like the coldest corner of Hades in Minnesota... what's it like for our BusBuddies that live to the north of Minnesota, in Canada?? After working 35 winters outside up north, when i play on the bus outside i just love it, the difference is knowing i don't have to go out. I was working on the bus yesterday it was about 16 or 17 degrees outside not counting the wind chill, my friend Ed calls me and says,"its to cold to work on my bus, i'm gonna come over and look at your bus.......what are you doing?" i look around standing in that cold, cutting steel on my chop saw for the roof raise, i said i'm working on my bus, come on over. Working on the bus is fun, weather doesn't really bother me anymore, if i get cold i go in a sit down, yeah i have a jetblower and a couple of other types of heaters and i turn them on now and then, just to keep the company warm..... I don't think i would have it any other way......... |

-54 degrees... Man that's cold though, ain't it? How about a nice stiff breeze to go along with it... So, is that cold like in the movie The Day After Tomorrow where the helicopter crashed and the guys inside froze solid in mid-sentence?? Yeah, like Hollywood never exaggerates! Brian |

It's been cold in the Ottawa area he last few days, -20C during the day, lower at night (about -29 F) My boys and I are going for a 3 day 1000 km snowmobile trip. Getting dressed for this seems bit like suiting up for a space mission. The bus can wait until spring. Dave D |

MAN, you guys are making me shiver just reading this. Being near Chicago, our 0 degree temps are nothing compared to -54, UGH, it hurts just to say that. Me and my two Greyhounds have been staying in the house, keeping warm for now. And to think, I used to go snowmobiling a few years ago. It was fun. but I remember getting the Snowmobile suit, hat, helmit, gloves boots, oh man. If you fell in the snow, you never felt it. AND I used to prefer to ride when it was -10 out, because nobody else would go riding then, IT WAS TOO COLD!!! HAr Har har. BRRRrrrrr, next year, I think I might stay in Florida for a couple months... All the other states are getting their share of COLD. Its not that cold here it's only -5 going down to -15 tonight .It has snowed about a foot since yesterday and I have plowed for about an hour . I can see the bus the roof has about a eighteen inches of snow on it . if I remember tomorrow i will take a picture and try to post it. It looks like it is going to snow most of the night 12''so there will be an early morning trying to get the back hoe bucket up and down for the first little while, as you said the oil turns to honey and she gets stiff.I bought two large electric heaters to put in the bus to work on it but as David said wait for spring it is only five months away. |

When I went to Pat's the other day it was so cold I saw 2 beagle dogs with a set of jumper cables trying to get a rabbit started. And yes, he did turn on the heater for me after I got there. Ed |

-54F. is almost 100 degrees colder than it was here in Ft. Myers, FL. yesterday morning at 6:10. Some one above mentioned oil turning to honey...Hey, at -54 it's so hard you can cut it with a chain saw, and stack it like cordwood! ...JJ |

Freezing rain here tonight in Edmonton, the area is paralyzed all hiways closed in all directions.Temperature today a balmy - 5 C. Cleared the driveway this afternoon (snow). Plugged the bus in for 2 hrs and ran it for 20 minutes. Welded up four brackets for the crown of the roof of the bus barn so I have a safety anchor to hang onto when we proceed with shingling. do not know how long we may have to wait for warmer weather. You see fellows I am trying to get to the point where I can work on the bus year round instead of only seven months out of the year.I do not relish the thought of sliding off a 16 ft high roof. So untill the weather warms up we are at a standstill , except for planning . Now where did Fast Fred say I could those find those diesel heaters? |

When I was younger I thought nothing of going boating when it was 105 out -- and going snow mobiling at -15. As I get older my tempature range gets smaller. Now at about 50 to 80. My deal on bus -- work on it during summer -- use it to go to warmer places in winter!! Live in South Dakota -- not in the winter! Jim |

Yep, us Yankees are a tough and crazy crowd. We get a bus to work on outside in the howling wind, and sub-zero temps, because laying on our backs under a car while replacing a starter in the winter is too warm. I'd like to toss back this question to the southern brothers ... how the heck can you work on a bus roof at noon in July? Ok OK ... most of you have bus barns with fans and all that stuff. Am I jealous? Bet your sweet ... I am !!! When the Spring thaw hits, and I can find the bus after the snow melts, I'm going to work like heck to get it finished. THEN ... this winter wasteland will never see me again. Where is that global warming when you need it the most? |

My Significant Other is from Tenn. but has lived in upstate NY for the last 15 years. It took me a winter to show her that Yankees can walk on water!! Even if only in the winter. That being said, I can't wait for retirement so I can move down to my property in a residential airpark in North Florida and not see another winter. Three more years!! |

It's REALLY cold here...1 right now, & my wife woke up to -6 at 4:30am. Even my St. Bernard doesn't want anything to do with it. I currently have one cat (kitten) on my lap, one cat curled up next to the radiator in the computer room, and one cat who has burrowed under a blanket & refuses to stick out more than her nose. |

New England's worst storm of the season, a nor'easter, was expected to peak late last night and early this morning, by which time snowfall of 2 to 3 inches an hour and a windchill index of 15 to 20 degrees below zero were possible. ..."Here's my message: Wherever you are at 10 o'clock tonight, you should stay there until at least noon tomorrow," National Weather Service meteorologist Walter Drag said yesterday. ''This is a high-end storm with significant impact. It's a serious event." The city of Boston also declared a snow emergency, and the National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for the eastern part of the state, effective until 6 p.m. today. It predicted the storm could rank in the top 10 of recorded snowfalls in southern New England. And THAT is why I'm glad I don't live there anymore. I live in a place where I was able to work on my bus yesterday in shirt sleeves in 70 degree weather for six hours straight! Brian |

We moved from Houston to Nashville, via Northern Minnesota. We spent a year there. I raised the roof on our Eagle in the dead of winter. I won't bore y'all with the stories, and I did have heat in the garage most of the time. Let's just say that I spent a fair amount of time cutting steel with frozen snott hanging from the end of my nose and had to take my gloves off to scrape the ice from lens on the inside of the welding hood. fun. I tried to spin doughnuts on the ice in yard, but those darn, un-driven, carrier wheels ruined all my fun. I did manage to get a sideways slide going while moving quickly in reverse and locking the brakes up while turning. |
