Judging from the amount of duplicate posts I've seen in recent days, I'm guessing everyone else is having the same issues with posting as I have been... Reading and traversing the messages is quick and speedy as always.... but I've noticed a very definite sluggishness to the system when posting.... I've seen quite a few posts that are duplicates, so I'm assuming I'm not the only one to notice this issue...? I@n... what's up?? -Kevin |

Oh... don't take my message as a bash in any way. It's just an observation and a "heads up" that there's a problem that he may not know about. If I didn't like the board, I'd be elsewhere.... I only frequent two places for this thing that's taken control over me. Oh, and it takes about 45 seconds to a full minute to go pull up the original message with your reply on the end of it... Just gotta give it time. I've started opening up a new window when I plan to reply to something, that way I can keep browsing while it's posting. Of course, my interests are always expensive... I have a new love. Remember that airplane I said I ordered the plans for? Well.... I've been learning how to fly using simulators and pilot's manuals... it's quite a trip! I can hardly wait to do the real thing.... But... I've found an even more expensive "hobby" that I want to get into... building my own kit plane. Aside from the ultralight I'm going to build as an "introduction" to flying... It's called the "Cozy Mark IV"... Very beautiful plane... I'll leave it at that. -Kevin |

Macgyver, Thanks for the head's up on that. I didn't see it happening, so your message is very much appreciated. I'll shut off the board tomorrow morning and see if the diagnostics routine shows a problem. Both the old and new board versions have a double post filter that doesn't allow the same message to appear within 3 minutes, in case the writer double clicks the "Preview/Post Message" bar. That'll be the first thing I'll check. I'll let you know my findings in this thread. Again, thank you. Ian www.busnut.com |

Dont' spend too much time on a computer simulator, since the slew rate is so terribly slow compared to the real thing. You get used to the computer and you'll be so far behind the curve that it'll be downright dangerous in the air. I've built one and helped build several, so have fun, and ferget the bus...you ain't gonna' have time 'fer both!!! ...JJ |

Hahaha.... John, I'm only 30. ;) I have plenty of time for both. What I don't have enough of is MONEY! As for the realism issues with a simulator, I completely expect there to be major discrepencies between the "handling" of the simulation vs. the real thing... but what the simulator can teach me is how to read the instruments, what some of the procedures of airports are, flight patterns, etc... It's just a learning tool so I know a little more than just NOTHING when I eventually go to flight school... I don't have any high expectation of perfection on a computer simulation for flight, believe me... It's just an augmentation to the reading materials I have for a visual "hands-on" reading of the instrumentation and basic operation of flight controls beyond the stick itself. Besides... I own the bus. The plane is a dream at this point. ;) Gotta have another project on the backburner ready and waiting ya know! -Kevin |

FF.... Nah, I can only handle one major project at a time... and since the plane is AT LEAST 5 years away from having the first piece of frame ordered... I think I'll stick to the flight sim for now. As for real training... I'll more than likely go with a personal instructor, rather than a flight school. It just depends on what's available wherever I am at the moment the itch starts to drive me truly nuts. On a more on-topic note... I see that the board is still posting slowly this morning. -Kevin |

I just cheat and hit the "enter" key a second time after giving the system only about 5 seconds to post my entry. Then I get a reply saying that I probably hit the key twice by accident which I did but on purpose. This lets me post quickly despite the apparent slow glitch requiring about 90 seconds to post without cheating. Wow!! |

Folks, Well, someone's at play again. The IP comes from Level 3 Communications, Inc, out of Broomfield, Colorado and has a wide range of dynamic IP addresses, all of which I have now disabled for this board. If there is anyone in Colorado that has been denied access to this bbs, please send me an email directly to me at admin@busnut.com and I'll get you back on. Please accept my apology for making you go through this additional step, but I know I have your support in moderating the abusers. Thank you all for your patience in this matter. Ian www.busnut.com PS. My ISP also wants me to run another test of the (slow) scripts, so this also serves to address that issue, too. |

Jim- I use at least three methods to connect to the Internet. Each has a totally different ip address. Whenever anyone uses a WiFi connection, the IP address again will be different with each connection with each different WiFi. And cellphone connections can assign dozens of different IP addresses .... And "Looking for the lunatic" wouldn't take you further than one of my posts..... It's the perils of the system. Hi Derek, Good work. Exact match to my research. The range for the Colorado ISP is 4.0.0.0 to 4.255.255.255 so that captures an awful lot of users including the abuser. It's not who you think, as I have been emailing that person off the board. Please be careful what accusations you make, folks. It's a thin line and we're a very small group compared to the size of the Internet. Note the 3rd post from who you may think is me after the two test messages were posted. IP is way off the mark, so I'm afraid we're going to have to live with the abuser until he/she gets tired of me pulling their messages off the board. It has been my experience that that occurs quickly. So, here's the new rule: I'll watch the board more closely and remove anything that looks abusive. Don't anyone reply to anything unless it's bus related or you can easily identify the genuine log in of the message author. Give me a day to remove anything offensive. But folks, you've got to give me that day. Don't reply. That's what abusers want is the audience. If you see I've missed something, email me directly, not here on the board. Thanks for your patience, folks. Ian www.busnut.com |

Ok, I'm confused. How did we get from "The board's posting a bit slow" to "Let's start banning people!" If the "lunatic" 2D is using the IP range disabled by I@n, he'll contact I@n directly to get the issue resolved... But, I have to wonder at one thing.... if there is a faker on board, then the original should pop up and say "I didn't write that!"... I know I sure would if I saw people posting under my name.... So, one has to wonder... Does 2D have split personality? (I know I do at times!) -Kevin |

I@n.... Re: "Note the 3rd post from who you may think is me after the two test messages were posted. IP is way off the mark, so I'm afraid we're going to have to live with the abuser until" I thought I made it more than obvious that I had posted the "test tickle test tickle" comment using your identity? And it certainly does have my usual ip address attached to it... I certainly didn't try to hide it by using some WiFi system.. Wazzup, boss? I do hope you're not going to go paranoid on us? I use a forum and classified ads page on our site as well, and have to check things every &*^%^%$ day... It's a pain, especially when you don't make a blasted nickle from it.. But I guess it's part of the "hobby". Trying to discern who an imposter is by his ip address alone, is fine for those that do not use multiples of Internet connections and do not have more than a few ways they enter into the system. For others that travel, are the road, living full-time RV lifestyles, or are in business, they'll look like an imposter every time they connect using a different method... why bother? I don't see any harassing posts, aside from the usual overly sensitive crew... but what the hell.... It's part of life, ain't it? If someone steals my identity here, Gawdbless 'em. But why would anyone want to look like an idiot? Stay sane, man. eh? |

Macgyver, This is the only post left for the abuser to play on since I removed his other gleanings yesterday. Two Dogs has emailed me offline and we are having our normal conversations. Two Dogs isn't the only one caught in the IP range of 4.0.0.0 to 4.255.255.255, the same range as the abuser. Jim in california, who tipped me off in an email first, is in that same range. Both got banned by accident when I invoked that feature, both emailed me offline when they discovered they were banned and I've since lifted the ban on that range of IPs for the obvious reason. If Jim is in CA and Two Dogs is in TX and the ISP is in CO, where does one start. I don't have that answer other than to be vigilant and remove offending messages. But then, I've been doing that for the last 7 years, so no sweat. Ian www.busnut.com PS. My ISP and I are still working on the slow server issue. |

Ian, What has likely happened is that while Level3 Communications owns that 4.x.x.x netblock, they lease certain IP ranges to others, smaller ISPs, for example, for thier own use. Hence why a man in California, and a man in south Texas, both have an IP from the same "provider", in Colorado. |

I@n... I posted another message in another thread on this. I work as a system's admin, part of my job is tracking down abusive users. If you need help getting this guy banned at the source, I'll be more than happy to throw my weight in. I've had more than my share of horror users that I've had banned into oblivion. I remember this one guy that was so confident I couldn't get him banned, he dared me. He gave me everything I needed, and said I couldn't do squat. The next day, he was banned... I never heard from him again.... In the other message, I left instructions on the process in getting this done... http://www.busnut.com/bbs/messages/11/9006.html?1106417719 Oh yea... one other option that is still open to you... find out the range of IP's within the block that belong to that person's ISP... then block that range. The entire IP range you're talking about is administered by one company, but it's broken down into several smaller blocks for individual ISP's. Send a message to the company that controlls the block, and get the range of IP's if you'd just rather do it that way and be done with it.... Cheers! -Kevin |
