I have an oportinuity to get a 8V71 (complete motor and transmission). How much does it weigh? I have looked and, as usual, found everything but weight. I want to have enough truck or trailer to do the job. Thanks, Kyle |

Others will tell exactly, but my guess is around 2350 pounds, depending upon the accessories bolted up to it. Maybe around 2550 with a clutch and turbo. Good luck. |

Thanks Ron; it would help if I could read the whole thing properly. I do not like getting middle aged and stuff. Auughhhh! I left out the tranny weight. What kind of tranny is it? A Fuller/Eaton T905/T1105 5-speed manual will go at about 550 pounds or sooos, a 13-speed Roadranger about 750 to 850 pounds or soooss... and an Allision about 850 to 1000 pounds or sooss, depending upon the model. Hope this helps. Would be kinda heavy for any type of pickup truck, but easy for a 2 ton truck. Good luck. |

I haul my 8V92ta home in a 3/4 ton (only had to go 5 miles & went real slow.)I didn't tie it to the box, because it was sooooo heavy, I figured that if the motor moved, tie in, it would rip the box right off the truck. LOL Ron |

Depends on how old the pickup truck is. I used to haul 2500 lbs of sand and gravel in a 1973 F100 pickup years ago, without problems. Tried that once with my 1996 F150 when it was still under warranty and the local Ford dealer ended up replacing the differential pinion bearing for me at no charge. Should have known when the new truck was down on the rubber axle stops that the load was too heavy for the truck, but my F100 did the same job just fine, and they were both half ton trucks. One just had more guts and glory (and less plastic) than the other. |

Is the 671 (straight block) lighter than the 8V71? A lot of people are re-powering factory 671 setups with 8V71s and I'm wondering if the 671T (at least with a 4-valve head) wouldn't have been a better idea to maintain close-to-stock weights while adding power? |

Thanks everyone, its a non turbo and the tranny is a spicer 4-speed, so 3000# should cover it. I've overloaded trucks in the past and have gotten away with it, but I'd rather not use up all of my luck just yet. |

Hey Kyle, Bill got it 100% correct. You can use a good three quarter ton pickup AND a good, stout, 2-axle larger car hauling trailer with no sweat. Also available most anywhere at a rental place. Good luck. |
