I recently bought an alternator off the board. generaly speaking I believe most people on here are honest and want to help other fellow bus enthousiests.I had reservations about whether this would fit my bus and it did. I was told it was working when taken off. and that it would arive on a certain date at a certain time it did not. it arrived 7 days later. I was told price plus shipping of $45 or $46. after I agreed to pay that amount it was shipped to me and I was e-mailed a bill. the agreed upon price + a 30 dollar increase in shipping + a not agreed upon 15 dollars for packaging. I recieved the alternator seen the bolt pattern was the same and sent a money order for the amount less the $15 for a cardboard box.with a note stating why and wondering how a diesel mechanic could mistake 100 lbs for 50 lbs. I felt I was getting gouged. but payed it cause that was the actual shipping. if it had to be crated that would be different. I would then expect to pay for packaging. I installed it today and it sounded like it was going to explode. it was louder than my 8V71. and at this moment is not charging. it is getting looked at while the fuel problem is being fixed. I recieved an E-mail from the seller saying 'Well, Ron you keep the $15.00. That alt. I sold you was working fine. But I hope it blow up on your face, cause little worms like you dissever the $15.00 blow up. Hope we cross paths someday." The only thing omited was his name. I'm not trying to slam anybody or I would have used his name. I'm just pointing out not every body has the same morals or character as you or I may have so be some what causous. I've made a few dolars selling online and spent quite a few dollars online without any problems. I might not have too put in 40 hrs a week in a sweat box factory. but I do EARN my money the old fashioned way. by running a succesfull biusiness as a musician, magician comedian. I can't afford to buy 3 or 4 alternaters just to finaly get one that works and still do the other maintainance and repairs on my bus. so please when selling something online make sure it is what you say it is. If you really know nothing about it say that. if it doesn't work and is only good for a core say that. |

I certainly agree with you Ron I have had similar problems with descriptions of parts not just embellished but out right lied about. I have also had prices change on me after the agreement was reached. I don't understant what these people hope to accomplish they may make some easy money in the short run but in the long run people find out how they operate and hopefully they will get back what they put out. I do however believe like you that most people that use sites like this one are here to help and be helped so unfortunately we must endure the few who value themselves as well as others so little. Best of luck to you and if you would like provided the shipping wouldn't kill you I would be happy to go through your old alternator for you at no labor charge you provide parts. Tim in ohio |

Thanks Tim,I just might take you up on that offer. my old one is in mich. I could have it shipped to you. I would rather have the one made for my bus. it was screwed up by kenworth in bowling green ky whenever they put my tranny in and charged me eleven hundred dollars over the agreed upon price and then the new one was trashed because they broke an oil sending unit and it started gushing oil. It's too time consuming and mentaly draining to send good money after bad so it's easier to just forget about it an bite the bullet in most cases. |

Ron, There are Crooks in physical bussiness's too like: Detroit Diesel in Liberty Mo. For one thing they charge $85/hour to work on busses and $75 to work on trucks. But worst of all they'll bill you for 4 or even 5 hours for every hour they work. And there is nothing you can do about it. I had the misfortune of being towed there by Coach Net with a failed driveline bearing. I was billed for 14 hours labor to remove & replace 8 bolts! Regards Jerry 4107 1120 |

So there you are... I use ebay for everything (and I mean everything, including my bus!) and the feedback gives a good idea of the seller's integrety... never had a bad transaction in 4 years. But answering online classifieds or dealing outside of that environment can be iffy, as there is no way to check up on the seller's reputation. |

Recently Two Dogs saw a post that he shared with us on the E place for an assortment of 22.5 Alcoas, tires and a couple of steel wheels. I won the auction, at which point the seller came up short two Alcoas with tires. and was going to refund me $600.00 when I picked up the tires and remaining Alcoas. I drove 800 miles, round trip to a truck tire shop, in Southern California, where he arranged for me to make the pickup, he personaly was out of town at the time. When I arrived he was short two more Alcoas, four tires and failed to leave the $600.00. Anyone wishing the name of this individual feel free to email. He advertizes himself as a builder of custom coaches. FWIW |

Bob: please post the name of said person in SoCal. I'm in the process of looking for a custom coach builder and have a line on one in that area, but don't want to assume it's the same guy. |

Yeah, please tell us, and I hope you left feedback accordingly. I suspect I might know who it was even. Good thing about EBay, you should be fully reinbursed or he will be history. Did you file a fraud report? |

Thing is, there's a lot of places in SoCal this might be. Holding out in this case is unfair to the honest ones. |

I have been burnt pretty bad from the Eplace. And this guy knew how to get around the Eplace rules. I had paid in full for the device, they kept stalling, then said it was on order, then email trouble, all the time apologizing for the delay. They even had sent a message asking what color I preferred for the item. Then continued delays, stories, lies. I sent so many EMails about my item, they threatened to report me for spamming. I turned it into the Eplace guys but they said they couldn't do anything. That was a year ago, still have not gotton the item, still no refund, in fact they had refused to refund. I gave up. Out several hundred bucks. My buys for the EPlace have dimminished greatly and I can only warn anyone else about their "shadey" backgrounds. cd |

The safest method I have found so far is to pay by credit card via Paypal; Paypal offers $500. protection, and the credit card people are equally cooperative. It has worked for me at least three times. |

It is just too easy guys, to get it all done right. If you file a fraud report to EBay, they will give you links and support for reporting it to the IFCC, Internet Fraud Complaint Center (a federal office). They in turn lean on the guys local law enforcement agencies for an answer. By the time the bad guy gets hassled a bit, he is GLAD to make it right with you, has ALWAYS worked prefectly for me. You can go there and do it yet I bet, go to www.ifccfbi.gov and tell em all about it! If you don't, you are just letting a guy get by after doing you wrong with a federal offense, as well as letting him loose on all your bus buddies. I have hundreds of purchases and sales, and have NEVER lost a cent yet. |

Having been on Ebay for well over 4 years, both buying and selling, and having a 99.8 rating plus almost a thousand feedbacks... and with a sister who has bought and sold on Ebay for ten years... I can tell you Don is right, do it right, take all the right steps and it should all turn out right. But, in my opinion, the BEST way is not to get screwed in the first place! I probably have a couple of thousand transactions (not everyone leaves feedback) and rarely if ever have trouble... Because, I follow these rules: 1. Never buy from anyone with a feedback rating of LESS than 99.0 2. Never buy from from someone who has less than at LEAST 10 feedbacks from BUYERS who isn't at 100 percent positve feeback from those buyers. 3. Eveb with a feedback rating higher than 99.0 Check their feedbacks, if suddenly in the last month they have had a rash of negative feedbacks don't buy 4. Use a billpaying service like Paypal, because you can be refunded for non-reciept of goods. (You'll need something like delivery confirmation (for USPS) or package tracking (for UPS) of some sort. You can also purchase seperate buyers insurance on your payment. 5. If you are still leary about the transaction, insist on having the seller purchase insurance on the item equal to the VALUE of the item, not the price you paid for it at auction. Works for me... and if everyone used these rules, eventualy all the bad sellers would go away. One last thing, regarding shipping... if they don't list how much the shipping will be on the item ASK how much, AND if it's a manual, and you aren't in a rush for it, ask the seller if they are willing to send it media mail, it should cost around 3 or 4 dollars normally... instead of 13 or 14.
