Why didn't they put a fuel gauge in the 4905? I would like to put one in mine and have a couple ideas. The first and easiest is an elbo fitting at close to bottom of tank and one at close to top of tank with a clear tube. but you can't read it from the comfort of your drivers seat.
also keeping the metal shavings out of tank while drilling for fittings. Second idea is use the holding tank set up that tells your levels in holding tanks. any other ideas or methods you have used?

The tank should be pre drilled and have a cap covering the hole for the fuel gauge and all the wiring is there and in the dash also.
Some come with them some did not It was a option but the bus is wired for all the options .
Mine has the factory gauge just above the steering colum . You should get the factory wiring digram it show all the wiring for all opitons the bus could have had or has.

It was an option , many purchasers had a gage installed.

On my 06 the gage is at the fuel fill and requires the engine to be on for powering.

Look carfully , and see if the wiring shown in Da Book exists in your coach.

Since it was an option, the tank may already be pre-drilled with a plate over the opening for the fuel sender

And as to why it doesn't have a gauge... Charter operators have scheduled fueling stops and with their tanks topped off at certain intervals the need for a gauge (for them) is minimal...

...Although, most coaches now have gauges anyway.

When sawing a hole to install a sender, or drilling holes to mount, liberally coat the drill bit or saw whth heavy axle grease. This will retain over 99% of the chips, if you are careful. I cleaned the chips off just as I was about to break thru and never had any indication that any got into the tank. Any chips that escape fall to the bottom of the tank and really do not cause any problem. If by chance any get picked up by the pickup tube, they will be caught by the filter.

My 06 had a round cap on top of the tank, got a gauge and sender from JC whitney took off the cap and put the sender there , had to run my own wires, the gauge was in the 30.00 range with sender, works great. carefully look at the top of the tank

When drilling tanks try using your handy dandy little shop vac. Cut a groove in the hose end and it will snuggle right up around the bit and never loose a shaving. Sure beats grease flying all over the place off the bit. ...JJ

Also If you use the stock hole and a float type it will have to have a drop about 14" to the pivot point and about 20" arm it will have to fit in a slot cut in the baffel in the tank . That should be in your tank even if your bus did not come with one and the hole should be there also in the top of the tank.
The wires if not by the tank will be taped up by the air tank low PSI switch on the other side of the bulkhead one is a ground the other one goes to the gauge. I dont know if LUKE would have the sending unit thats fits but I try there frist.

I ahd a bad sending unit in my 4905 and I also replaced the gauge. Luke got and after market sending unit and put it in. It works great and the price was more than faair. I would like it to be a little more correct, but at empty I ahve about25 gallons left and it has never failed me. If you call Luke and ask for his parts manager Mike and Mention my bus he will rember what he did. It works.
