I have a Mo 15 Eagle, 89 with a hydraulic operated cooling system. The book says that 20W50 hydraulic oil is used in the system. (I have never heard of 20W50 hydraulic oil) Looking at my sight glass the oil in my system looks more like red tranny oil (Dextron) does anyone out there know which oil is the best to use in my system. Is the Dextron II OK. ALSO: I am cleaning and detailing the same area. At the Filler Tube area, the book indicates a Decal label w/inst. info. etc. next to the filler tube. I would like to reproduce this label. Does anyone know the exact verbage that is on that label. ALSO: I would like to paint the radiator. I have seen cans of special spray paint labeled for radiators. Is that necessary or will any good quality spray paint be ok. I do not want to take away any cooling ability of the radiator. Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated. THANKS Arthur |

Actually, I've never heard of multi-v hydraulic oil either... But I do know that Dextron is a Hydraulic oil. Several years ago I worked on a Ford front end loader that used tranny fluid as hydraulic fluid, from the factory. Brian |

Dextron is only 10 weight I believe and is used in hydraulic or power steering. I would not guess against the book unless it was a emergency as too thin may cause operating problems if the fan motor is a "tempature regulated varable speed turbine" (just speculating on this as a possibility, have never seen the system). Maybe find the manufacturer of the fan motor and pump and ask them if you think the manual is wrong. I have heard of multi weight oil in hydrulics but then I live in the north were it can be 110 or -40 degrees and in some applications you may need that range of viscosity! |

Arthur, According to the local radiator shop I asked, there is a special radiator paint and although many use regular paint, the radiator paint is designed for that purpose. He had no axe to grind as he did not sell it, probably used regular paint on his jobs........ LOL. Peter. |
