does anybody know what size injectors go into a 82 silver eagle 6v92 ? I just had mine rebuilt and its smoking, black smoke whenever I accellerate. Someone said it could be the size 90 injectors they installed to give me more power.

When mine was smoking I had Luke (Bill) adjust the rack- cleared right up. Did your mechanic know what he was doing?

I think Geoff has frequently mentioned, co-incident with 90 injectors that you have to use the proper Turbo. Did they change the injectors without changing the Turbo?

I don't claim to know this, just regurgitating what I believe I read previously. Clearing this point up may make it easier to diagnose

Tom, Just got my 84 Eagle with a silver 6v-92 out of a Detroit shop today. Had 90 injectors installed. Had to put in larger turbo and a bypass blower. This bus orginally had 55 injectors from the factory. Eagle owners manual says 263 horsepower with those injectors. I put in 70 injectors to increase horsepower to approx 290 horsepower. Did notice power increase but smoked and lost MPG'S. When they did this, some Detroit people expressed concerns of engine not getting enough air with orginal turbo and blower. {I wanted to put in 80's but they would not do it). After a year of not getting the power I wanted, went to 90'S, bigger turbo and by-pass blower. They say 330 horsepower now. Drove it home today about 80 miles, what a difference!! No smoke and no foot to the floor all the time. Have your choice of injectors but check you IDplates on you valve covers. Detorit can tell you alot if your engine has these plates. Also smoke can be because of dirty air filter and also because of a minor setting that can be made on the fuel system. I dont remember what it is called but it slows your fuel down to the injectors when you step on it. Good Luck!!

It's called a "throttle delay" and that's exactly it's purpose - to slow down the initial opening of the injectors when the throttle's applied to reduce the smoke.

Makes the bus sort of a "slug" out of the hole, but helps keep the tree-huggers at bay. . .
