Have any of you used or heard of these guys?

http://www.zena.net/

Kinda pricy but it is portable and with no power available for a high amp item such as a welder, my options are limited.

Here's some specs:

150A 100% duty cycle hi-freq. DC mobile welding system w/20ft welding /control cables - for underhood or retrofit use secondary to an existing 12V electrical system.

I am not familiar these guys in particular, but have seen other companies with the same type of product.

Seem like a good idea but from what I remember they are expensive.....

The father of a friend of mine is a mobile service mechanic who is a wiz at engineering unique mechanical devices, one of them is a DC welder using three Chrysler 100 amp alternators driven off a pto. Very effective and this is something he's been doing for years an added benefit is ot's cheap what with the collection of used 100 amp Chrysler alternators he has to replace ones that go bad. He says they usually last two or three years of heavy use.

Sound good.

My question is about "square pulse" DC. Need to see the Oscilloscope of voltage and current pattern.

However try to talk to their customer how it compares to normal DC welder. Maybe better???

One thing I strongly would not do is get their “piggy back kit” belt set-up. But go directly to power pulley source.
Reason is;
1) Alternator’s rear bearing are usually needle type which uaually get hot & dry up of grease.
2) Also extra load on alternator’s single-belt.

It would interest to learn the comparison of gas powered DC welder to Zena.

FWIW
