I have a 50 Gal. black tank I plan to use with an RV toilet that uses less than a pint per flush. This would compute to about four hundred flushes to fill the tank. Does anyone have this aprox size tank and how long does it last when full timing on the road?
I have a 65 Gal. gray water tank, how long would this last with reasonable water conservation efforts?

Thanks Nelson

We have 100 gallons of fresh & 110 combined black & grey. I like the combined 'cause when I run out of water I dump the tank. No overflows that way.
We can go 2.5 days with a teenager, or 5-6 days with just Sue & I.
(5 days with a pre teen boy 'cause they don't bathe or brush their teeth!)

Actually, you will make about 2-3 times as much grey as black.

you have the 400 flushes part but what about the ummmmmmm stuff. i have a 35 gallon black and 35 grey. i fill the black on a weeken 3- 4 days. alot of times i slow drain the grey as it is only shower water.
if i had to rebuild bus, i would up fresh water to 150 gallon and black to 75 grey to 50.

"A log"? How colloquial, in that disgustingly crass sort of way..

To stop "Skid Marks" on very low flow toilets the usual is a spray of PAM after every cleaning.

I agree 300 or 400 uses ,divided by occupants , for endurance.

unless you have Beer Parties!

I have to raise this issue again - even though everyone has their own opinion about it.

I am combining my black and grey onto one 110 gal tank. Draining grey water on the ground is illegal in most states. You may get away with it, but caught once and you may prefer a different ourcome if you know what I mean. With a beer party, you have lots of capacity!

My feeling is that, if you have to dump it, you may as well benefit from a combined tank and keep an eye on it. A combined tank will benefit in the dumping process as the solid content per gallon will be lower. In RVs, I have had to dump and rinse and dump and rinse several times as the liquid content in the blackwater tank is so low. Not a lot of fun.

What I AM planning to do is have a grey water "short circuit" from the shower only (which will have a future washer/dryer) so I can drain the grey from those sources into a connected sewer directly if I want to. They do well with a continuous drain, whereas a blackwater tank does not do very well(unless you have a macerator pump - but that is a whole 'nother story).

My thoughts

We have a 95 gallon black tank. It takes two adults about two weeks, to fill between 1/2 and 3/4 full.

Our 95 gallon fresh water tank (and 95 gallon grey) lasts anywhere between 2 and 4 days, depending on the length of showers. We could definitely go longer with moderate conservation efforts.

Nelson,

For two people, 50 gallon black tank should last quite a while. In a previous coach, two of us didn't fill it in nearly two weeks. Never had it out long enough to fill it. The bus will have 50 black, 100 grey and 200 fresh. The plan is be self contained for 15 to 30 days.

In four previous RV's, I never had a problem with the black tank. The key is keeping enough water in it to keep things soluable and loose. Add a pot of grey sink water twice a week -- more often if it's hot weather.

Dividing 200gal of water into 30 days is only 7 gpd for two folks.

ON a boat where drinking and showering is needed 3 1/2 Gal per person daily would be fine, as most use sea water for dishwashing, the most wastefull use for water.

Paper plates, might be OK but how will you clean the pots & pans?

Please don't laugh (well, maybe a little) but the big advantage of being a "guy" is that we can take care of most nature's calls by simply taking a short hike into the woods.

Of course, this techinque may not work in crowded urban areas or trailer parks. Discretion is advised. Ladys, unless they are very intrepid, must use "the facilities" inside the coach.

Anyway, if techinques like these are employeed and the use of the black tank reserved for "other" important functions, 50 gallons of black tank capacity can last 2 people at least one week. Good luck.
