I have a 1980 MCI-9 I have removed the seats and bath room. What do you cover the hole with where the toilet was. I thought about using a sheet of allumminum on the bottom and popriveting it in then spray foam the hole and sheet the top. What did the rest of you do.

If he can pop rivet a sheet on the bottom, the tank is already gone!

i took all the sheet metal off (inside the coach) where the back seats were.... it was rusty and the rivets had popped loose... then cut the sheet metal pan outof the floor....(underneath the toilet)....ive fitted plywood to fill in the holes...and still need to put the galvalume sheets up in the engine compartment...in the thickness area of the square tubing (where the old fiberglass insulation was) i put the polycyanurate foam insulation board... foil-backed...2-1" layers..then sealed the foam with the spray-can type insulation....

I would like to ask a few more questions if you don't mind.
What year is your MCI-9?
Did you remove the windows and reskin.
Did you remove the factory heating and cooling duct work.

Before I changed my plans completely, I was going to put insulation there, sandwiched with larger sheetmetal pieces above and below with bolts thru the two metal pieces to hold it all tight. (with squirt foam everywhere) Still think that would be quick & easy and would probably do it that way again if I didn't now need the hole there.

I guess I should show what I did instead, although this wouldn't work for most folks...(or at least for Mama)

my mci9 is a 1981.... i haven't removed any windows yet... but plan on it... i do plan on leaving 2 on the passenger side... and 2, maybe 3 on the drivers side... i did remove all the ductwork..floor vents... made the floor flat where the ramp is between the first 4 seats... i removed the coach heating and a/c stuff too... it probably didn't work...plans are to use a small heater that i'll vent to the dash so the windshield will stay clear...and keep the driver comfy.. but i'll use roof a/c's for cooling....i sold the stainless steel floor panels.. a/c and heater cores... made about $200 in scrap....

Noooo, you don't crawl *inside*, you silly man!

OK, I've been told by email that my photos don't make any sense, so I'll elaborate. The first post shows what I was planning to cover up the hole with after all the latrine, tank & SS surround stuff was removed.

I then changed my mind and decided to place the RV toilet base IN the hole left by the original chute, and as the hole opens to the engine compartment below, I placed the black tank below that in the engine room, just foreward of the AC compressor. So the toilet's base is *below* that raised wood floor/shelf, with the tank directly below that in the engineroom.

The sink is roughly where the original bus sink was, but it's larger, and it is seperately plumbed into the grey tank.

The countertop conceals the entire toilet when down, and reveals it when up. It's hinged in two places, with a gas strut which smoothly lifts it up. (just another 'lid' for mama to gripe about ;) So with all this, you don't waste floorspace with a 5 sqft throne area.

I'm *really* trying to use every square foot do to multiple tasks. After all, you can't use the toilet and brush yo teeth at the same time!

Wait till you see the other nutty ideas I have planned.

It's below the tank, which will be hosed underneath to drivers side. This arrangement is a prototype - I'm not sure how well it will work in practice. I don't expect that my abilities to imagine a workable solution will in any way be matched by a finished workable solution in reality! :-)

PS: I didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Hey, Chuck

You gotta be "TC" Topically Correct, or the bus gremlins will mess with your coach and leave you with Montezuma's Revenge!

Isn't this a discussion forum? Nothing on the header that says it's topically controlled.

You're just fine!

I just remember something, I hope you didn't cover over those access holes cause I did BAD MISTAKE but luckily I wasn't that far finished when the Trans locked up cause had to remove the alternator and what a heavy sucker that is, cause you realy can only get to it from the inside

Thanks, Dana - no, I've learned enough from you guys to not do that. All the stuff mentioned above is to the right (pass-side) of both of the access hatches.
