We just purchased a 1978 GMC RTS. We are to fly out on the 23rd to pick it up. We just found out that the coach does not have power to move. If starts, shifts, idles and rev's just fine. It just won't move. The coach has been sitting for awhile. Possible fuel problem? We are looking for someone to go and fix it. If you know of anyone who might be able to help, please contact me at riank@charter.net. We are also looking for a right taillight assembly. Thanks

It could be that the brakes are not releasing after sitting for an extended period.

If the engine doesn't have the power to move it is probably a clogged fuel filter.

If it has power but won't move it is probably as Craig says, the drums are rusted to the brake linings...a very common problem with trucks with maxi brakes.

Did I read that right??? the bus starts SHIFTS revs and idles fine?

If it is actualy shifting but doesn't move, you either have a drive axle problem or a drive shaft problem.

If the bus was towed to it's resting spot the driveline could be disconnected.

this bus has been sitting unused/unrun for around 3 yrs..... and as a result it has engine problems... the diesel fuel has turned to varnish and caused at least 1 injector to sieze....so the rack is stuck in the idle position... it will only idle...the cylinder/cylinders affected are not mis-firing, meaning plunger still goes up and down, injecting some diesel... but the rack part of the injector is whats stuck...while you might possibly free up this stuck injector, my suggestion is to replace it... maybe all... labor is more expensive than the parts....especially at $80-$100/hr....

Hey Tony & Kim,

I have a list of about 30 bus nuts & companies in Austin. Let me know if you still need some direction & I will get ahold of some of them & see what help we can give. Bus Nuts are a great source for telling who has been good to them over the years.
