In poking around a bit, I realized recently that "toy hauler" class travel trailers have gotten pretty small of late...as small as 18-21ft, with a rear hatch/ramp, mini-roof-AC, small toilet/shower combo, small kitchen and about 12ft of workspace in the back available once you lift the rear bed up. Most have about 50gal or so water on board, which could be used for a Splendide or similar. These are meant to be pulled behind a mid-size car. A bus would hardly notice. Seems to me you'd get a shop area, motorcyle towing/secure storage and "guesthouse" all in one, for as little as $10k or so very lightly used. Anybody else considered this? |

NOW you're thinkin', Jim Have a nice coach to relax in, and a "toy-hauler" to play with. Was beginning to wonder when you'd stumble onto them. . . RJ |

Sounds more like you gonna need a "doghouse" to sleep in and want it to be more comfortable. |

Why would you want to spend $10,000 on a trailer with a bed, cheap toilet and other amenities you already have in your bus? use the money you save on that stuff and buy a higher quality cargo trailer that has finished walls, lights and put cabinets in it for a work bench and storage. You realy seem to jump around on what you want. don't let that money burn a hole in your pocket and sit on it a while, so you can make a rational descision. theres plenty of cool options out there |

I know it sounds weird, but there's a specific reason I might need such a "guesthouse". And no, it ain't about me in the doghouse . Two reasons, actually: one, motorcycle repairs in an AC-powered unit by day, rainproof by night thing is useful. But the other reason...OK, go back to the political activism stuff. I'm in some damn town digging through public records. Well my main collaborator is a lady I respect highly, she's 13 or so years my senior and our partnership is of the platonic and political activist sort ONLY. Now, her husband is a cool guy and a political activist in another field so he knows the "crusader mindset" and supports her anyways. But. Note the term "husband". Let's just say it *might* help stress levels just a little to have a "guesthouse". As to types: http://rvtrader.com/rvdetail.php?id=37382 http://rvtrader.com/rvdetail.php?id=68823 http://rvtrader.com/rvdetail.php?id=59313 http://rvtrader.com/rvdetail.php?id=68964 http://rvtrader.com/rvdetail.php?id=78621 http://rvtrader.com/rvdetail.php?id=76676 http://rvtrader.com/rvdetail.php?id=78702 Yeah, this might be pricey...but all could be towed by a 35ft rig with a 671/6V71 and manual tranny, and we all know you can do pretty well in the $25k range there. The net total would be less than trying to add something like this to a Crown skoolie conversion: http://rvtrader.com/rvdetail.php?id=39648 (truly comical link there!) Now, I don't *know* that I'm gonna go this route. I'm still waiting for two quotes back on the conversion costs for that cherry Crown Highway Postal in Arizona...IF my total costs on that can be kept to the $35k-$40k or so range, I could solve the other problem if that comes up with a small pure travel trailer...which would be WAY cheaper than these small toy haulers. |
